do your best to have it written off

sorry to say it man, but that car is cactus. even if they do get it "repaired" it will never be "right" again. you will forever have new creaks, squeeks, and the rear handling will probably be different. even if the geometry is returned to PERFECT condition the metal has been worked so will never be the same.

i second earlier suggestion... find a nice straight NA and get out your spanners.

pressure your insurer to write that car off..its all fine to straighten out an excel (who cares it was an excel to start with) but zeds have a much higher expectation of performance

again sorry to hear and glad you were not squashed by your pride and joy:zlove: .

That was a nice looking car. I hope you can find another in similar condition.

I can only imagine the sound it would have made with the rear window smashing, the panels crunching, etc. ouch!

Sorry to see this. Looked like a nice Z.

**cough** Get this post deleted. I don't think insurance will meet your claim if they realise you had a turbo timer installed....get it uninstalled...

    Thanks for the condolances

I'm unable to forget the feeling of helplessness and foolishness. It seemed to take forever to get down the drive and across the road. I think I held my breath.

As to how fast it was going, the tree in this photo was what it bounced off, back up hill slightly to where it is in the photo.

Yes, I think that I will be looking for another Z to love.

    4 more pix
Driver's side has no damage except hatch
    [IMG]

Where it could have ended up if about 14" uphill (ie If it missed the tree)

    On the tow truck
    [IMG]

From the rear - rear tyres have more camber, passenger's rear wheel looks like it's 1/4" forward and passenger exhaust is bent 2 times, (it took a 50mm core out of the tree)

    Feel for you mate

You must be kicking yourself, oh well lesson learnt. Could have been a whole lot worse if that tree hadn't of been there.
Pity the window wasn't down you could of leapt in there and yanked on the handbrake...

Holy crap man, this is one of the worst threads Ive read in terms of personal reaction, I felt like throwing up seeing the damage, I feel really bad for you.
At least it went rear first into the tree, you'll be able to recover a fair bit of the car.

I also agree, your post needs to be edited to cover your bases, or pull the pics before prying eyes can see just to be on the safe side....

So sad to see this... it's the sort of disaster we all fear, the car destroyed from a moments inattention.
As the old song goes: "pick yourself up, brush yourself down, and start all over again!"
The recoverable parts placed into a shell will still give you a great Zed. All it will take is time and effort (and perhaps a bit of the folding green stuff).

OMG Charles, you must be gutted at this moment. Lynn & I are absolutely devastated by this awful event.:(
So very, very sad to see this happen to such a great gentleman, and fellow Zed fanatic. It's just a relief to know that you and the family aren't hurt in any way.
We older blokes know it only takes a momentary lack of concentration for bad things to occur, but why did you have to give us such a graphic demonstration?:eek::eek:

I think it's very likely to be written off, but as has already been said, there is so much of it that's recoverable, that it would be well worth transferring it onto another car.

Btw, you will be welcome at Cowra, no matter what you arrive in.:zlove::zlove:

    Phew,

That's scary. Pity on such a nice car.

But look at it from the bright side. You could have ended up underneath the car trying to stop it.

If the tree wasn't there, you might have demolished your neighbors house.

Plenty of nice cars around if you need to get another one.

I bet you still can't believe what's happened...and you've gone through every "what if..." since. It's a damn shame to see it happen but be glad there were no passing vehicles or pedestrians at the time. I'd hate to imagine what would have happened if the tree wasn't there to save the house

I really feel for you, yet a cruel and expensive lesson learned.
