Anybody will be glad to insure that thing. It costs me about 1400 p.a payed monthly. But seriously it depends what rating you are and driving history ect. I was lucky.. im 20... but when I was 19 i rang young and cool for a quote for an Import NA with stereo mods and they quoted full comp for 1800 p.a.. or something like 180 paying monthly.

On top of the $4,500 quote for my TT...

They won't insure it for any more than $13K! Work in the $1,500 excess and its less than I paid for it, before modifications etc, plus they dont refund whats left of the premium, or registration costs, or anything! Plus they get to keep any modifications or accessories listed on the policy, which of course has to be everything...

Oh to be a 45yo female with a barina.

    I am paying 850 just for 3rd party + Fire & Theft

I might give them a call with your examples and ask why my quote is so huge

I'm happy with Shannons, and it is no secret ...

...that they are paranoid about lock up garages. They don't insure under 25s either. It makes no sense to go there if I you don't fit that profile. That doesn't make them dickheads, just that they have identified a market niche for themselves and are sticking to it.

However, one of the most potent insurance parameters is always going to be postcode. If you have the wrong address, getting reasonable insurance is going to be tough. I had the (laughable) experience of having HSV Insurance refuse to insure my HSV - I am over 50, class 1, never lost a point, etc, etc. Believe it or not, NRMA took the HSV, first year $3,500, down to $2,500 in the second year. Under a grand for the Zed at Shannons is good value for me.

When AAMI started up, in Sydney they only insured cars on the North Shore, but they changed that later. My daughter lives on the Central Coast and when I changed the garaging address on her policy the premium halved!!

It's all horses for courses........ work the phone. YOur insurance cost is way too high. If you can't find anything a better deal than that, you might have to move.

Re: I'm happy with Shannons, and it is no secret ...

The thing that really jacked me off about shannon's was that I was on the phone for 30 minutes getting a quote, They went through everything. (wonder they didnt ask what colour jocks I had on).

They asked the address and how the car was garaged right at the start.

Then a useless 20 mins of other shit. Then after they quoted me a price that was just OK.

Then they say, oh you havent got a garage SORRY! No shit, I already knew that and so did they 20 minutes earlier.

I mean, if that isnt the province of dickheadidness I wanna know what is!

If they said at the start "we require a garage" I would have hang up then instead of waiting 30 mins and devulging heaps of info that was useless in the end.

That should be the first question, and a yay or nah then.

That's why I was pissed off with em. Time wasters.

Shannons put to the test ...

Tonight the NDSOC had a club meeting at the Shannons offices and auction rooms in Cheltenham (Vic), and given that I had been driving uninsured for a while, thought I'd give them the opportunity to quote while I was there.

Came away with a full comprehensive policy, rating 1, agreed value of $16000, full salvage rights, for a pay-by-the-month premium of under $80.00. Somewhere around $900 yearly. All this ... and I don't have a garage or lockable gates - the car resides in a carport. This issue was the first point of discussion given the above posts and personal experiences related by other members. The comment made was that the garage issue MAY depend on what car you want to insure in which suburb, but it was very quickly decided that this would not be an issue for me, and we proceeded to all the other questions.

It certainly showed that a face-to-face discussion may be of more benefit than a telephone call. Given that Shannons are a club sponsor, and were a sponsor of the recent Nissan Nats, arranging the cover on a club meeting night may also have helped - but I believe they also recognise our forum as an "automotive club".

It also may or may not have been of benefit that I had the Z insured with Shannons 4 years ago, however, given that their computer records had me being 104 years old (born 1901) and of unknown sex, I'm not so sure .....

All in all a big  to Shannons.

    Now its confirmed.

Vermont South is a hot bed of car based crime !!!

Give me a break. You have to physically go down there to get a quote that is what you want.

Mikey try Budget Direct in Queensland. They where even cheaper than that quote you got from Shannons.

    for those that care...

I'm with shannons and think they're great... I moved from just cars to shannos mainly because just cars would not insure the car for the amount I wanted...

    Shannons:

    $1530 per year (paid monthly)
    Agreed value of $20,000 (1990 J-spec NA)
All my mods have been listed, no questions asked

    I am 28, rating 1...

    Cheers

Yep - I see your point....

they guy I dealt with was clear and concise, and he knew a lot about Zeds. I would thinnk 10 minutes start to finish. It looks pretty clear you were dealing with someone completely different.

Since you started this rabbit running, there have been a lot of posts - there is a lot of good info in there so it was certainly worth the trouble.

    Cheers

That is encouraging. I have yet to start any serious tinkering....

with my Zed and your premium looks pretty reasonable for a modified car.

In my case, I am 57, grade 1, all points and all that, and much better looking than your picture. On that basis I should be able to beat your $1530.

BTW what city are you in?

    Cheers

    Barry

ps I nearly asked what state you are in, but that would I suspect have produced a different response

    answers...

    I'm in melbourne...

Shannons seem to be keen on car enthusiasts or at least thats what they say. Luckily my family have always been car lovers so I told them that a few of my family members were in an Alfa club (which they were) and I was part of NDSOC and aus300zx (which I am). They had no issues insuring me... but my car is locked in a garage and I specified that it is only really used on weekends, which is true cos my sigma is the daily driver. They didnt put in the limited km's category because I told them that although it is a weekend car, I still do many km's because my gf lives in dandenong (68km from my house). All they wanted was to inspect the car. I could either take it to the office in melbourne and have an assesor examine it, or send them recent photo's with a date on the photo. I opted the photo choice and sent them some photo's of every angle both interior and out. They were happy with it and insured it for $20000. I think being part of a car club really helps cos I had one little gripe once, and all I told them was that I was a member of NDSOC, and they were more than happy to rectify my issue.

    Cheers
