300ZX TT Vs. XR6 Turbo

    dude there are two conversations going on in this thread. 1 being you saying a 270rwkw with the mods mentioned would own alot of cars and 2 the convo about a 5k zed. you are saying to wizard that he doesnt have an accurate observation on the 5k zed issue, and im saying u dont have an accurate observation on the 270rwkw zed issue. i dont see where i was backing up wizard when i wasnt event referring to the 5k zed you guys are talking about.

    oh and btw relax no offence taken, if you are actually thinking that way you are taking the net way to seriously. the sun is shinning outside smile :cool::cool:. this is a debate and thats all it is. :)

    I'm glad you've been a zed owner for 8 years. I'm sure you know the engines in and out. But that doesn't mean you know the current market.

    Why did I argue for so long about 5k TTs? My TT was for sale for 9.5k. The guy was getting married and needed to sell the car in 1 week. I offered him 5k and after he ummed and ahhed about it, he took it.

    The car was bought seven months ago. I've had to do the 100k service and change the radiator.

    With a pod filter and catback, still on standard boost, my car pulled 182rwkw.

    You're right, I don't have any experience with a 270rwkw zed. What I meant before was that i'm not surprised that your friend's xr6t is fast, that's why I said that roughly same money would get 250-270rwkw in a zed, which wouldn't be slow either. (never actually said that the zed would beat the xr6t).

    ye ofcoarse it wouldnt be slow, thats actually what im chasing. 270-280rwkw zed is what i want. i think thats an all round good power level arggg can we like start a buy chad some big turbos foundation??? :D:D:D:D

    technical dinosaurs? I think HP is HP it doesnt matter how its made. In the end there is no replacement for displacement. XR's have much more power under the curve, they run a fairly long stroke so piston speed is high at low rpm (turbos love this), they create alot of torque and torque wins races in the 1/4. the gt35/40 that they come with is rated for some pretty serious flow also.

    BTW off topic but nissan has run shev shitrods in their race cars previously

    lol, funny, the bitchiness that gets loose in these threads at times :rolleyes:

    Anyway... just thought i'd throw in that i have raced with an XR6 on the Symons plains track in Tassie. The XR6 belonged to the mechanic who did my auto to manual conversion. As far as i'm aware the car is mostly used for racing etc, so i'm sure he's got a few mods on it but not sure what, didn't ask at the time.
    Not sure if he was taking it easy on the day, but my lap times were significantly better than his, and my brakes were failing me big time on that day too!
    So anyway there u have it, a race track comparison... might be able to track down the times if anyone is really keen.

    When you are driving around town, and you see a car race ahead, you dont go oo hold, hm, nah i want that off, O/D hmm..

    You snap first stmp your foot and ****ing fly past him.

    Thats what i did, i dint carefully choose my car setup and adjust my boost, this was at the lights, random drag to 70K
    And my 7.5k TT Z beat a brand new XR6

    So who got rip[ped for the fast car?

    I think if you want a fast car, ****ing get one, dont buy something with potential and leave it.

    If you got enugh money to get an XR6 and do it up, do it, if you dont,get a 300zx..

    Nah I didn't. Sure you've got people desperate to sell for there own reasons, and you "may" pick up a bargain. I've had quite a few people either from the forum or from word of mouth by friends, lately calling me up to look at these sub $6K zeds. And everyones become a god at photoshop I swear. I go over the adds, and the car looks good and clean. We get to where the car is at, and you start to see the peeling paint and sagging springs. Open the door and the a pillar trims are falling off, the seats are ripped and the carpet is shagged. Open the bonnet and the oil is thicker than honey, there's tell tail signs of oil leaks around the manifolds and turbo's, and one where the timing covers where cleaned but get your hand underneath into the timing belt and it's wet with oil. Coolant residue on the firewall. Shockers...absolute shockers. You ask them if they can have the car cold for when you arrive, most of them conveniently forget. One was in "ok" condition for a $5400 TT, but of course, was warmed up. Oil was ok, no signs of coolant, although the engine bay looked professionally cleaned. Anyway, said, ok looks good. We'll be around first thing in the morning when the car's cold. OK, no worries, get there, coolants green and to the brim. Start her up. Missing, spluttering at idle, clacking sound at the front. Clears in about 2 minutes and runs ok, but the clacking sound is still there. "apparently goes away when the oil is warm" Fiddling around, the noise is the timing belt hitting the drivers side timing belt cover after the tensioner...shot tensioner. Stick my head up to say something and there's oil smoke everywhere, exhaust seals have gone.

    Walked out of there, seeing i could guarantee for this guy, I was going to be doing the repairs, and I wouldn't have a bar of it. Told him to buy a pulsar.

    hey dude thought id just give you another guys info.

    xr6t his plates are YPURV4 in vic. search it up on the xr6t forums and you will see evidence of what im typing... he has 660cc injectors, valve springs, tune, highflow cat+cat back exhaust, fuel pump, monza cooler, ported wastegate with 9psi actuator, stock auto etc everything else untouched. ran a 11.8 on m/t's.

    my mate has very similiar mods: 660cc injectors, valve springs, tune, cat(otherwise stock exhaust), fuel pump, rapid cooler, ported wastegate 12psi actuator, stock auto etc everything else untouched.

    oh and on the note of times and xr6t's this is the list of the quickest xr6t's in AUST.

    Your forgetting the issue with weight.

    My Z pulling 270-280rwkw and my mate Mark from MRC who was mentioned earlier in the thread and owns a 350rwkw xr6t, agreed it would be a close race because the xr6t weighs way more then the 1500kg Z. I think his xr6t turbo would be quicker but not by much.

    But regardless XR6Turbos are awesome cars to take power out of with only a few mods. I love the the look of the typhoons
