    My fix

Hope this will keep em off my back.

Brought the plate further out to the rear so I get past the 45/90 rule. Next step is to put the plates inside a plate cover (american size), then it should
    look a professional job.

Got round the problem of the illumination of the plate by using a strip of white LEDs.

a good point amonst this is that, as we all know, the boys in blue ..

do not like having to appear in court on minor charges if they can avoid it ..stretched resources, days off etc ... simply to challenge the charge in a court appearance (with compliance info) could bring a change of mind as to whether to proceed or to do a deal ...

and related to other contributions on this thread, of our 3000++ members, i wonder how many boys in blue we have as zed owners/members and whether we might be lining ourselves up for more such

Can you give me some details......>>

On the led strip you used? My car has only got one number plate light (has always only had one) and I would rather put something that worked a little better then the stock unit in if I have to do some work in that area.

    Sure.

Got mine from autobarn, they are supposed to be for the inside of the car, and they come with a controller (chaser), in so far as they can be permanently on or pulse to music. They are available in multicolor and various lengths, but I chose white to be legal :)

I mounted the control unit in behind the centre rear panel, because I do not believe that unit would be weatherproof, and ran the wires through a grommet in the spare tyre well.

The unit has two of these LED strips, so I cut one off and have it as a spare :)

Let me know if you want some closer up pics

Yeah I got a $60 fine for bending mine

Next time they fine me for it they will see me in court, as QLD Transport approved it like that.

I may have to chase one up and have a look at it in the flesh. Thanks Ian.

I solved the problem by having square rear plates.

I have custom plates and have a slim front plate with square rear. It fits the rear perfectly.
I am not sure this combination is available in states other than South Australia but it is worth finding out.

    Cool plate.

Yes they are available here in QLD, pretty much any combo you like, but the main problem seems to be for those people with standard plates (six characters), the plates simply do not fit.

Five characters or less you can opt for USA sized plates.

You should ask them to fax the "bend it" instruction to you "signed".

That way you can show ot the the "Cnutstable" and also to the judge :)

Just talked to a Qld Transport inspector

when i had my car registered i bumped into him at the end of the day. He said you cannot deface the place at all: 1. Dont cut it - illegal
    2. Dont bend it inwards or reduce the visible area of the plate

If you mount it further out the numberplate light wont illuminate it.

He seemed to have no problem with me bending the edges of the plate outwards for the rear mount (1cm each side).

Tell the cop to get lost. No one has the same standards or proper way of measuring the 45* 90* rule anyway...

If I were you I'd be taking this one to court. As has been said how can he prove that it wasn't at a 45 dagree angle did he measure it??? if this is the whole basis of the ticket you got you should be able to get round it. Worst case if you lose at court you'll probably only get a $100 fine and $63 odd court costs. Was the cop on his own cause if he was its only your word against his and he has to be able to prove it beond a reasonable doubt. you could also take a few pics of the front of your car to show that the plate is clearly visable.

How about hotrods with the number plate behind the front grills how do they get away with that?

    anyhow good luck with it.
