Short hand here's what happened. Drove past a bike cop He asked for me to pull over and have a conversation Said that my plate was bent and didn't comply with some 45* to 90* rule. The plate is bet, but its still easily visible. Copped TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY BUCKS!!! Was just wondering if anyone else has had this happend and what they did about it, if anything? Cause i not keen on paying it. Offence details: Code: 5442 Obscure Number Plate Info: Number plate bent and not with 4590. THanks guys.
Gee that is bad luck.... my plates are bent aswell so they can fit, i know there is a law about that, but i've never heard anyone getting a fine for it. There are alot of imports in particular whose plates are bent as thats the only way they will fit. Sorry to hear, you must have been unlucky. Im suprised he fined you, you didnt have a go at him did you? Max:thumbsup:
I had a warning along with my last speeding fine. I said that the thousands of other imported Zeds in Australia ARE the same, there's no way around it. I asked him what I was supposed to do, to which he replied 'ring Queensland Transport'. No help, but if they are to allow a car to be imported like this, they should make people aware of the options. I'm sure they'd just say to mount it off the bar 6 inches and not in the cavity.
Must be a bike cop thing.... An upstanding Police officer on a BIKE decided to book me for 'Insufficient use of left hand idicator' Because , wait for it, I didnt let it flash 3 times before CHANGING LANE!!!! $161.00 !!!!! wasnt even turning a corner not to mention he was following me for about 2 suburbs waiting to book me for whatever he could.... Oh well dont you love the way some cops love there own little power tripn world.. and to the sensible cops who do there job right and arnt picky just because we are enthusiats Thanx wish there were more of you lol
I had heard of this I had heard about something like this, I chose to actually cut the plate and a clear perspex cover to fit which has a black painted border that hides everything and fits snug.
I cut my rear plate too I'm sure I'll get booked for it some day. If the cops know or suspect you did something wrong but can't make it stick then they'll do their best to find something else wrong with your car to book you.
I had to cut mine also! I got those Polycarb plates, and had to cut the edges off the two sides. It looks average now because the white border which used to encircle the plate is now only at the top and bottom of the plate. Solution: (I am getting those clear perspex number plate covers, and will trim them down to fit. The will actually hide the lines still left on the plate.)
EASY fix inside, as cutting plates is illegal also Hate to burst everyones bubble, Cutting plates is also illegal guys, to cut a long story short the easy fix is what i had on mine, a slimline on the front and a USA style plate on the rear, it fits perfectly in the rear bumper
USA style plate? Got a pic of that or some further explaination? Is that an option you can get in some states like the slimline front plate? Cheers, Shaun (Grenfel).
Lex had a personalised plate Shaun only 5 letters or numbers so it is a bit narrower. When I first registered my Z I asked someone at the rego place if I could cut them to fit. I was told that was a definite no-no but was told to bend them! I guess this person was not in a position to advise on the legality of doing this though. Perhaps we should all be covering the rear plate with a perspex protection plate to hide the bent section Cliff
I made my own plate with perspex and stickers, 1defect, but no fines! Go figure that one........?? $240 for genuine plate but bent, yet no fine for totally home made plate?? Not that Im complaining , just a screw up the way they see things.
I've got USA Plates on both front and Rear For all the things these little piggies wanna come to market and book me for they aren't gonna get me for bent plates. Please note that my plates are supposed to read MAFIA which i think pisses the cops off that little bit more. However with the USA Style. THEY CAN'T DO JACK SHIT. Please excuse my vulgar language, as for anyone that knows me i'm not one to curse. Cheers Fate Gotta love throwing my 2 cents in.
How do you cut the Polycarbonate without damaging it? Just wondering how you cut it because I'm going to have to do the same...whether it's illegal or not, I have no other option. I saw a few imported Zeds at car shows with polycarbonate plates and they had cut them to fit also. When I ordered my plates, there was no small size in regards to length...otherwise I would of got them...imo, if there is no other option you have no choice but to trim them to fit. Guess we'll all have to start ordering the Aussie version rear bumper...that or, we just mount the plate in between the tail lights...
Mate that sux.. but there could be an escape I would ring up the QLD Transport Authority. AS they would have passes the vehicle when it came in the country, issued the car with those plates and would have made the assumption that the car was able to have those plates fitted to the vehicle... hope this helps.. cheers azzurro zed 32
Similar Victorian solution is to get a 5 digit or less slimline plate, as they will fit without cutting or bending. Also gave me room to use a bling-bling billet alloy plate mount (see below). Unfortunately no USA style plates available in Vic , and they rejected my application to custom make one. Aus-spec owners don't have this problem; another option is to get a UAS rear bar cover as I believe JP modded them to ensure a standard Aus plate would fit in the recess.
Re: How do you cut the Polycarbonate without damaging it? After reading this thread, I have just been on the phone to Personalised Plates QLD. Bending plates illegal Cutting plates illegal Perspex plates illegal Advice offered , change your number plate to a 5 character combo (pay for a new plate), or take your chances with the police. Apparently 6 character like mine can not at this stage be ordered in american size.
