well what about stock nissan oil then?

or maybe they will simply work better with a different brand of oil, mark?

    dude....

Waz, my lifter tick is a brief 1-2 second tapping that occurs at cold startup or when the car has been sitting for many hours. After those few seconds, the ticking has gone and all is back to normal. What this indicates to me is that some of my lifters are possibly stuck open and bleeding out the oil which usually keeps them pumped up. A thicker oil would be less prone to leak out. Thats the way I see it anyway.

Also, I believe a 0w oil is not right for the zed. I had this in my car when I first got it and although I understand the benefits of it (low viscosity, gets into the head quicker) I think its just too thin. In that 6 month period that I used the 0w I had two rear main seals leak oil. A coincidence?? maybe, but the srvice manual says to use a 10w, 15w or 20w. As much as we hate to say it, the zed is an "older" engine (pushing 17 years) and I believe not suitable for 0w oils.

    Cheers

Its getting colder now in Bris.. down below 15 sometimes

What engine oils do people use in Brisbane? Now that its the colder part of the year as well?

JEDI-77 I have pretty much the exact same problem (noisy lifters on startup and after the car has been sitting for a while).
What oil did you end up changing to and has it alleviated the problem?

    maybe this will help clicky

from what that says 1st number lower=better, depending on the temp in the morning, eg. 0w great for alaska. second is running temp.lower for colder climates i spose?

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Mark, 'DREDZ' is quite happy on Fuchs 5W40 full synth

but obviously there is some difference in the way the lifters are behaving . . . no noise on start-up suggests no "bleed-down".
