I can charge up to $260 an hour for air conditioning and mechanical services engineering surveys and consultancy reports, however if we charge that amount and take on the job the figures etc have to be 100% accurate and it all needs to work if not its our head on the chopping block. There is too many stories about people charging heaps and then disolving all responsibility within the motor industry and even the medical profession for that matter. Further more not just limited to those either I would go so far as to say any industry where people charge money for a service or goods is open to this type of abuse its a way of life for some people and a fact we should all sadly accept and be very careful when engaging the services of such businesses.

About a year ago my son had ecsma we went to a skin specialist for medicinal diagnosise. We paid $140 for the session and after the doctor looked over my son he said he wasnt sure and would refer us to an ecsma specialist, we were there for a whole 5 minutes if that and $140 see you later, I wouldnt have paid it but they make you pay before the consultation so you are screwed either way.

Anyway back on topic AZ make sure you get a quote to do the actual job at hand and advise the place doing the work to call you for any and all over and above work before its done and ask for justification, mechanics like everyone else in services industries need to be made accountable for there actions.

Good luck with it and hope it all works out as intended and on budget

Ok I propose that if theres any knowledgeable zed enthusiasts out there that wants to help out another then they should do so......................

How about $30-40 an hour just to supervise and maybe provide the tools for a 100k service. Pretty good money without actually doing anything :D :D :D .

I would rather do this and learn than take my car to a unknown dodgy mechanic in the middle of nowhere (no one here!!!!).

seconded.. the whole reason noone ever ever touches my car is that every time ive broken that rule its been f*&ked up badly. pros.. all they have is their flashy workshop and high turn over staff.. who knows who did the work on your car.. backyarders have nothing but their word of mouth to go on.. here you must be careful too however as there are some dodgey people. only use people that come highly recommended from people other than their best mate

people like tom are a happy medium.. registered buisness working from home. if he stuffs ya car.. you know where he lives.. haha

and yes.. tom does have an unhappy customer.. have you seen that stripped down pile of crap in his garage? that guy just isnt getting the service he deserves, keeps putting all of his other customers first..

(disclaimer.. anyone who doesnt know.. thats toms own car)

LOL it's true! I've neglected my poor Z for far too long! Have to stay alive by working on other Z's so my fairlady gets the back burner 99.99% of the time!

I'm happy to say that on my way down to enzed this morning, I was able to drop off my block to get machined for the forged goodness... I'll have a long block in a month now! Woot!!!!!!

    By the Way Caz

I sacked the mech that worked on your car and was a bit careless. Still have Ben and Andrew who have been working at UAS for almost 5 years and are very good. The other mechs I have had on trial have been the challenge along the way.

A little off-topic trivia John  If touting for business can you post a price for 100k service and whether or not you'll fit quality parts supplied by owner(s)?

    Sorry Rob

It was not totally off subject and someone mentioned a prob with mech we had and I was explaining who we currently had on deck. I appreciate the slight tune up though.

I have or thought I explained about parts, altlhough we often fit parts customers supply, mainly electronic items.

As mentioned in this thread and as another angle on things. Would you go to a cheap doctor or solicitor, if your life or lively hood depends on it? I go to good specialists and costs but get results. NO not in all cases but it is an indicator and generally right.

How much more of this crap are we going to have to endure?

This would have to be a "first", even for this forum. Have we now reached a point where a reputable workshop is "bagged" for giving a quote(maybe Autotech didn't want to do the job)?
A short visit to this shop will show it to be packed with high performance road & Racecars(and around 20 staff).
I have never had unsatisfactory dealings with this shop.

If you have a bad experience with a workshop, it is reasonable to say so, but it is bullshit to name a business, simply on the basis of them having NOT GIVEN you the cheapest quote(for a job you didn't have done in that shop anyway).

like you, captain grumpy, i too am sick of the crap

promoted and regurgitated in this thread .. blatant self promotion, lengthy rambling, semi-coherent posts, total contradictions regarding the employment of porsche, bmw and lexus mechanics closely followed by at least two sackings of the same for unsatisfactory and careless work, endless infomercials .. and on and on ...:( :( :( :( :( :(

and all this without a spontaneous algorithmic generator for translations and interpretations ... cheaky, not aloud, hey ..??? .. because of this post, several members have suggested to me that perhaps the forum name should be changed, but retaining the same three lead letters .. that does not require too much imagination ..

and now i am looking where to find a "lively hood" ...

.. just all too damn much, ... like you i am simply jack of it all ...

rob .. sorry, but really cannot be bothered wasting

forum space to provide further detail .. this and one other thread are sufficiently self incriminating/revealing .... and the bases of my post ...

p.s. .. no axe to grind .. just bored with the repetitive excreta ... but are you suggesting your next group buy is for axe grinders ..?? will follow with interest .. lol....

Before you go off on your tangent(lovely vehicle, those Tangents) I am referring to the comments about Autotech (and sipro, whoever the Hell that is) and their quoting for a job they ultimately didn't get(lucky bastards).

I have long since resigned myself to contemplating that sage wisdom which states "When rape is inevitable, lay back and enjoy it".

My point, if I have one, is simply this,
if you have a job carried-out to your satisfaction(by a workshop of your choice), why is there any valid excuse for naming another workshop in an attempt to insinuate that they are somehow substandard because they quoted a higher price than you wanted to pay?

There are countless thousands of businesses that give quotes on a daily basis. They don't get every job they quote on, and they are not always the cheapest quote.
Do they need be be exposed as questionable crooks. I think not.:mad:

I think Lloyd that if a member wants to take their car to some place they have never been before for a job, and another member out of sincerety can get them a better deal (from experience) then they should post it.

    Example:

Its the honest truth, i dont care if autotech wanted to do the job or not but i travel to MRC at castle hill rather then the 3min drive to autotech, why?

Because i am more then happy with the service and price from MRC. I still cant see what the problem is if a member is helping another member by saving him some money :)

Also i dont think anyone but yourself lloyd read that post and thought to themselves Autotech must be crooks for the higher quote, but rather MRC must be a better deal. Also Mark as mentioned by Caz is a big time enthusiast plus the business owner which works out better for us zedders.

If you took your car to MRC, and are happy with the job and the price, great. Tell everyone you can. I don't see any reason for you to name other workshops that you didn't use(and I wonder why you only named one. There must be thousands that you didn't go to, but you didn't name them, did you? Why not?
I'll wait for the complete list to be published(put me down for the book).:p:p:eek:
