I've prob done 8000k's since then and 1 track day. I'm currently driving my zed 160k's a day to and from work and over the last two days I noticed the oil pressure was a bit low. I had checked it and it was low on the dipstick but above the min mark. Last night while driving home the oil pressure dropped to almost nothing not quickly but over about 5 min, I thought it must have being the sender playing up but I checked the level at the servo anyway. NO OIL on the dip stick??? I let it sit for 5min and checked again, still NO OIL!!!. I put a 1 litre in  to get a reading and get home safely. The pressure came good again for about 5 min the disappeared to almost 0 again. Is it possible the oil has lost it's properties and can't hold together and has become so thin it's slowly burning somewhere? I'm doing an oil change this morning but stil can figure out where the oil is going. No smoke and I have no leaks(any more). Also I recently did a plennum pull and it was very clean inside to it's not going through the PCV's.

Please help. Also I'll measure how much I put in this time for the record.

Mate hard to beleive but yes motors do use oil :)
most times the oil level is supplemented with other contaminates ,moisture carbon..yada yada go for a sustained drive and it will all boil off, resulting in a lower oil level .

anywhere from .5 to a litre drop is normal between oil changes, could use more if u track it.

Pretty sure ive seen you on the track and you DON'T burn any oil mate , all is good :zlove:

Can you explain that agian I don't understant how contaminants getting in will reduce the level and by over 1 litre in 5000k's. so you saying contaminants get in and boil off taking with them some oil and most likely go through the PCV and get burnt? But over 1 litre, hard to believe. I thought if there were no leaks and the engine was healthy you should never use oil or get contaminants?

Just measured the stick after leaving the car all night. After the 1 litre I put in last night it's sitting 5mm above the minmark, to there must hove only been about 2L in the motor:eek::eek: me thinks I need to check the oil more often.

Can you see any leaks at the front or rear main seals?

They are both new, only about 8000k's old, and no leaks

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

Sounds perfectly acceptable for such an engine. Relax
1 L /1000k's would perhaps raise my eyebrows.

    Service Done.

Took about 3 1/2 L. Oil pressure looked good, about 2.5 kg/cm2 at cruzing speed. However this morning on the way to work (cruising at 100k's the whole time no speed change) after about 20-30k's the pressure began to drop, all the way to 1. Then on it's own came good again, seems to be eratic, never going over 2.5 though.

Could this be a sender problem? Or is there something more sinister?
