    PS3's a Record Breaker
165,000 consoles sold in just three days.
    by Rob Burman, IGN UK

"UK, March 27, 2007 - As expected, PlayStation 3 has become the fastest selling home console in British history, with 165,000 consoles flying off the shelves since it was launched last Friday.

Thanks to plenty of early stock - compared to the Wii and Xbox 360 - most people could walk into a store over the weekend and buy a console without any hassle. In fact, many retailers still have units available and the 165,000 consoles sold only account for a third of the overall UK stock.

PS3 comfortably beat the Wii and Xbox 360 launches, which managed to sell 105,000 and 70,000 respectively. However, while PS3 may be the best-selling home console, it still failed to eclipse Sony's PSP, which racked up a staggering 185,000 sales during launch weekend."

This is propbably cause they had to do something with the manufacturing capacity that they can't use in the USA due to poor sales.

The 360 was supply contrained which is why they sold slightly above 100K instead of more.

the funniest part is the toys r' us they went to (in sydney mind you) had 6 people but only one was buying:rolleyes:

My mate is a head manager at eb games. He said despite a ton of pre-orders hardly any people actually picked one up...he said in the 4 stores in the illawarra, they sold less than 40 consoles total!!!! In comparison, they sold over 200 of the 360's at launch and the wii sold even more at launch.

Here's hoping they can turn it around...

PS2 could take a hard drive and you could record the games to the hard drive...

    90TTZ Back From The Dead

My days of video gaming go back to the Atari 2600 shortly dumped for a C64 which in it's day was awesome. I then had a 4 year afair with an Atari ST which in it's day was an awesome machine only rivaled by the Amiga which was plagued with intermittent faults and failures but the games had an edge over anything else. I then tried game consoles but only a Super Nintendo and a PS1 which were both cool in their day. Then I discovered that at some point the PC game market had really taken their place and had so much more detail and features than their game console equivilant, not to mention way more titels to choose from and most games form the past can be played without issue.

I'm still a big PC gamer today as for RTS, game consoles don't even come close. Image quality is also better on PC thanks to the high res monitors available and GPU's are at blistering speeds.

And as for online gaming, at least for most PC titels all you need is an internet connection. Xbox live you need that plus a subscrpition to Xbox live which really sux balls.

As for this thread, yes the PS3 has some very nice new tech hardware but as previously mentioned, the hardware will only be as good as the software released for it so time will tell. At this point in time I vote for X360.

Probably a good reason for people not getting their pre-orders from EB. They didn't have any good deals like Harvey-Norman or Myers (getting discounts on games etc)

Xbox360 comes with free subscribtion to live silver I think.

I love the deal at ebGames. PS3 only $699.
Then in fine print (with a working xbox or ps2 and 20 games) You've got to be kidding me. That's like $2k worth of games ffs.

Good joke, people would probably do that too. I hate the feeling of throwing away money thats why I never trade in my games.

lies! the Amiga didn't have intermittent faults! are you from the Supra forum?? ;)

I started on the Vic 20, went to a C64 and in no particular order had: Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, Amiga 2000, Amiga 3000, Amiga 4000 and Amiga CDTV.. then eventually had to switch to a PC and in an instant, computers stopped being fun. :/

I'm gonna be trading in my xbox and games for a 360, it will just end up like my ps1 if not. I'll keep the good games but there are so many i haven't play'd in years.

    artin ...there is no spoon

the only difference between this and the original 360 is that it has a HDMI port and a 120GB HDD.....oh yeh and its black with shiny bits....pfft!!!

other than that its exactly the same hardware wise....it dosnt even have the HD-DVD player built in....which i thought it would have

i dont have a HDMI compatible TV so that feature goes down the drain...im just interested in the 120GB HDD.....which infact is being sold seperatly as well and comes with a cable to transfer everything :D

working in video game store i deal with this all day,
    ps3>xbox360
to get the same or similar funtionality from an xbox 360 it cost $1,300
its over rated, over heats and has no where near enough good games to support it.
wii is in its own category and has sold almost 10 million units world wide already. good cheap fun. an addition that 360 lacks is the ability to download back catalog games games including ones that are no longer in production.
this feature is already available on the wii (although the points are in short supply) and will be coming soon on ps3

I've stayed out of this debate as while I like gaming, I'm not an avid gamer by any means. I've been an xbox fan since they were released, but looking at the specs of both machines, I think I'm starting to lean more towards a PS3.

    However:

I don't see myself downloading back catalogs
I much prefer the controller on the xbox
I don't need 120GB so the 20GB xbox premium would do me fine.
I don't plan on browsing the web with my gaming machine (i.e. ps3)
Which ever GTA4 looks better on will be my main choice. This is the one and only game that I really give 2 hoots about.

I'm pretty much the same as Paul...

I'm a big fan of GTA, but I'm also a fan of Halo. So I'll be getting a 360 in the not too distant future :D

The big question, how much will both units come down in price over the coming months?

If your after graphics, high end physics and home entertainment Playstation 3 is the way to go.

If your after a wide selection of game options and gamplay X360 is the one for you.

It's not worth buying a PS3 now as there is nothing to play and the online store is minimal. I was playing one for awhile last night and I was pretty impressed although Resistance is the only game worth buying. Motorstorm is pretty sweet but the game options are minimal and gameplay gets frustrating and boring after awhile.

My non biased opinion would be to get a Xbox 360 but it doesn't mean I'm going to. Im going to wait at least until 2008 then i'll get a PS3.
