Engine Build It's been a while since my last updates, so here's one. I'm pretty happy/proud of it, cos like everything else on the car I did everything myself (except for the seating of the oversized valves etc) Here's some snaps:
very impressive man.. that plenum looks mean !! looks great man.. stealthy aswell .. go dude. are they the gt28r turbos i spy hanging off the side? who did your headwork dude?
That sub-project is on hold, I just wanted to get the car finished and on the road again first. If I continue with that, it'll be after the car is driving. But I'm not sure if I want to continue with it, cos the rest of the car has a somewhat "stock" theme to it, and that upper plenum, as cool as it will be, just screams "extensive modification" to anyone looking under the hood. As it was, I was intending on getting a custom radiator and re-designing the intake piping to suit those TB's, but that too looks so custom. I'm thinking of using my Koyo 56mm that I had before I pulled the engine out, and making my own intake piping but routing them similar to the stock ones. I need to make new intake piping to suit my SMIC's... but more on that later
Some snaps of the work getting up to that stage: hydraulic lifter broth? boiling them in detergent to help get out the oil n stuff... then baking them to evaporate all the water
Suspension Out with the old In with the new... the colours in this pic look almost fake don't they! Some other additives that should dramatically change the ride
Intercoolers Got some GodSpeed intercoolers from USA ebay - they're quite big Here they are compared to some custom SMIC that I had made up, but those SMIC required custom pipework that I now can't be bothered doing - I just want to drive my car man! Those custom ones of mine have more depth (which you can't see at this angle) and larger piping (2.5" inlets and 3" outlets to suit the VH45 throttle bodies) GFB hybrid BOV's (in plumb back mode) :zlove:
Front Air Dam I'm building a front air dam to make sure air is pushed through the radiator and doesn't divert around it It's still a work in progress, here's the first few progress snaps: Here it is being trial fitted to the front bar (pic taken from behind the front bar obviously) Here it is sitting behind the reo bar Here's a pic showing how I've made the front sides and top (the top will be sealed with foam and the nose panel) I reckon it'll take about a week till I've finished this job. After that it's SMIC ducting, which should be comparatively easy :zlove: I should also show what I've done to open up the air-path to the top of the radiator: Here's a pic showing how restrictive the wiring harness is to the top of the rad (you should be able to see the rad above the AC cooler) I reckon this top portion of the rad isn't doing much, which is bad cos it means hot coolant bypasses the rad (effectively) and re-enters the engine for superheating This is what it looks like after some beauty treatment (wow look there's actually a radiator back there!)
I can't get the car in the sun till it's driving - it's presently on stands in a garage. Here's some more progress snaps of the air dam, almost finished
impressive work man. why dont u ditch the AC condensor aswell. get the air straight to the rad .. Air con is overrated
