So last week i bit the bullet and did my clutch. All up it took me 5 days to do it, on and off working on it by myself mostly.

All up the level of difficulty was about what i expected, there were some really frustrating bits like trying to remove so bolts up the top of the bell-housing and trying to re-align the gearbox to the spline of the clutch and crank

The total cost of this D.I.Y project was about $650. I brought a F1 racing stage 2 clutch kit including a lightweight chromeolly flywheel, clutch plate, pressure plate, throw-out bearing. 3 quarts of Royal Purple limited slip gear oil, nismo pivot stud and a bunch of seals and gaskets from nissan.

Any tips to people wanting to do this, have a look in the tech section on aus300zx.com and on Twinturbo.net for the guides on this kind of shit.

    Car on stands
    [IMG]

took the time to polish my exhuast while it was off the car :D
    [IMG]

If you are like me and had issues with you reverse sensor, now is a great time to fix it. the problem with mine was the wiring. Totally munted!

I got rid of all the solder and re wired mine from the clip to sensor.

    Gearbox out
    [IMG]

Flywheel, needs a resurface but usefull. Its for sale, make an offer ;)

rear main seal and massive build up of crap
    [IMG]

    Old gear vs new
    [IMG]

New rear main seal, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate fitted. note use a clutch alignment tool to get your clutch sitting right.

bell-housing semi-clean with old throw out bearing still fitted
    [IMG]

Gearbox cleaned and drained of all old trans fluid. man does that stuff stink!

bell-housing all cleaned with new throwout bearing pressed on and new pivot stud fitted behind clutch fork
    [IMG]

not sure if you can tell from the photos but the old clutch disc was worn down the the rivets  so the new one makes my car feel like its gained a pair :p

long assed job but well worth it :D

Looking mighty good. You've done yourself well working on the majority by yourself.

Ive only just now looked at the build, i must admit i always thought you bought enkies. In your dp, it totally reminded me of them. The r33 rims look good on it.

Hoping to get a similar work log happening for the blue zed. Paint and panel, manual gb. Overall! LOVE!

Again, your going great, keep it up.

Cheers mate! Really means alot :)
Funnily enough my old z had enkei's on it :p the gtr rims fit like a glove in the guards with no spacers, and provide stacks of grip!
To me nothing beats d.I.y do your homework and nearly everything can be done with your own hands! Saved a heap of cash and I've gained a little more knowledge of my car :)

As a few might know, I've moved to Melbourne to study. Hoping to become a mechanical engineer, can't half tell I love this stuff ;p
I've also made some modifications to the rear spoiler, fixed up some holes with bog and paint. Came up tops! I'd post pics but I'm limited to my iphone for interwebz.

For anybody who's keen to head to all japan day in Adelaide on the 28th be sure to check out my car as it's been entered :D I know it's not 100% finished but I'm still happy for people to have a look and keen to talk to some other enthusiasts there. If you see me around don't be shy to say hi! :)

Hey bud, bought myself the same clutch kit and flywheel which I have not fitted yet, keen to hear your impressions on it compared to the stock items performance wise.
    Cheers

This is because you don't have bushes anymore to dampen your steering feedback. You will have a lot more active feedback through the steering wheel now. Some like it, some don't. But it gives you more of an idea of what your suspension and steering components are doing on the road surface.

I like the extra feed back, anything that will help me become more aware of what my car is doing i think is a good thing. But i can see major bumps/potholes might become more noticeable now haha.
    cheers for the clarification mate

Been a bit of a D.I.Y but this weekend. had a pretty full on week at uni so i needed some hands on task to relax :p

Chose to fix a few things to fix up that have been bugging me for a very long time. Faded and chipped gray front bar strip and the holes in my spoiler.

Start with this, a faded shit looking strip of poo. With flakes chipping off.

Mask off and sand with 320 grit sandpaper.

Remember kids, always use protection.. the last thing you want is a over spray baby.

hit with 2 light, even coats then a heavier final coat. Each 10 minutes apart.

Took the chance to re-black my wipers and number plate hanger
    [IMG]

And the finished product looks like this
    [IMG]

The paint i used for this was VHT flat black Roll-bar and Chassis paint. Good quality stuff and self priming for the win!

Now with my spoiler as it was a two piece job stuck together with silicon, i removed the top part before it flew off while driving at speed. but it also left two gaping holes either side and cracked fiberglass showing.

So out came the body filler and a can of that touch up paint you get from places like auto barn.

This was my first time using bog, so the final product wasnt top notch but much better than before.

Tried my best to sand everything flat
    [IMG]

Them masked the area off and hit it with a light coat of primer followed by 4 coats of silver touch up.

    Finished product
    [IMG]

Also last week i went to a jdmst eomm. The turn out was ok, not to many cars about. Still really keen to go to a tech day or somthing with the z community!

    fave shot from the meet

Next stage is coming closer, going from mostly repair to modifycation. Thinking about coilovers, just going to ask some basic questions.
Whats some good spring rates for street use? ill be looking for the more stiffer side of things, want some real crazy handlinging/ dori dori capabilities butdont want a compressed spinal dics when i hit bump in the road.

what kind of coilovers fit our cars? Ive heard verios r32 skyline soilvers fit? ive noticed the the suspention setup is VERY simular to a gtr

what do you run personally? keen to hear what people think
