The boss decided to give me the day off so I got a few hours of work done to the bar. The old style indicators have been fitted and the number plate bracket removed.

Its still straight fiberglass at this point and needs to be bogged and smoothed but It gives you an idea of where its up to.

removing that number plate carrier was a great call, i think it really lets the bar down. Its especially inconsiderate for those who dont use a front number plate :D :D

Just a hint with fibreglass moulds, if you make the mould "twice" as thick as the finished parts, then this should be strong enough to give you a good life out of the mould.
You can also reinforce the mould with ridges in the flexible areas of the mould, and this will help keep it rigid.

I'd be keen to have one of your 2k bars as well, thats if you find a good way of packing it so it doesnt get damaged, I can organize shipping.

    Thanks
    Stu

Looking good....better start saving a few pennies to get one when it's available.
Who else in WA is up for one? Can save on shipping...

how many moulds are you going to make up lol?

this comes to mind (example here):
4 want the bar lowered yet stock
2 want the bar with old style bar lights instead of the 2k ones
1 wants the bar with old style bar lights and wants the mouth opened
5 want the bar left normal with the widened mouth
4 want the bar's mouth widened and number plate removed

etc etc etc, are you going to accommodate all these needs? or just going to make the one mould and sell as is?

im after just the nomal 2k, with the mouth widened and numberplate removed.
a lip if available later on etc. will this ever be available?

Only one mold will be made. Additional modifications can be made to the bar after it is out of the mold but at extra cost to the purchaser.

The bar that I am building will have
    1. Number plate bracket removed.
    2. Bar lowered 20mm
    3. SMIC and FMIC ducts opened up.
    4. Small extension to the lip.

While people have suggested other variations It is not financially viable to build separate molds for each. Im sure most will be happy with look of the final bar anyway.:)

ahh ok, because i saw the one you were modifying, converted to the old style lights instead of the 2k smoked ones, was confused on how you were doing this.

cant wait for the finished product, exactly what i needed.

I am really interested in one of these bars, except I think 20mm lower than the series 1 stock bar will be a problem for me. My stock urethane bar scrapes on my driveway and over some speed humps now.

I guess shaving the bottom of the modified bar is not going to be possible?

As an option I can fit an "autoshape" lip to yours.

    It relatively simple to use.

All you have to do is keep grinding the bar on the driveway and it will eventually wear to its perfect height.:p

Im in wa and want one as well :D i could probably organize the spraying of the bars fairly cheap for wa buyers as well, have access to a booth and required equipment etc.

Yeh i'm with Jet_power, I dont think there is any need to lower it any more, it would sit too low for it to line up on the same level as the sides of the car (without skirts on), the only reason im getting away with it now is beacause i have mudflaps so it lines up with them...

This poses a problem then. In opening up the ducts, without raising them I have to lower the bar.

I had not planned to lower it any further than a Greddy bar which is 18mm lower than the 2k bar.

(mostly because I want to get up my driveway too)

DUUUDDDDEEE!!!! Even with a geniune 2k bar you are going to have issues if your already scraping. Not that I want to talk you out of purchasing one of my bars but your car is too low to fit any aftermarket bar on without issues.:p

Yellow lines are so you can see the difference in heights relative to the bottom of the foglight and the bottom of the unmodified bar.

Ok it will be possible to do this without lowereing the bar any further but it will require cutting of the reo bar. I was going to try and avoid getting people to cut it but if the bar is going to be too low this is the only way I can open up the vents without changing the height.

The reo bar isnt difficult as its only reiforced plastic I can be done with a grinder.

What are peoples thoughts on this?
