ya i was reading about BOVs and this forum's opinion on it. my BOVs have to come off for a brief period for a roady. chances are they will be staying off til i get recircs.

dont like the dosing sound or the venting PSSSSST... me in a stock-looking jap import is cop magnet enough :(

edit: ye i noticed the 07 date after i posted lol.. epic thread dig indeed!!

I still don't understand why people are suddenly calling it 'dosing' After years of it being known as 'flutter' or 'blowback', why is the new breed of import crazed teens giving it this absolutely irrelevant and GAY AS name.

Give bogans a good engine with a turbocharger and this is what you get....

Cause arrogant little snots like to rename stuff so they can pretend to be all knowledgeable about something the oldies have never heard of.

HA so true! and i hate VLs and there tosser 'dose'. they are great for a laugh though. to my ears nothin beats a blowoff to atmo....

i think maybe the reason they (VL xxxxxxxxxxx) came up with 'dose' name is because there is quite a difference between a flutter and the actual highpitched 'squeek' that the big single-turbos can make with a small bit of metal pipe bolted to the turbo mouth. its still gay tho:p

Gay. But what to expect from a beaten up VL and bogan aussie Ford driver, eh. Can someone please explain the attraction of 'dosing':confused::confused:

Scump is NOT correct. The compressor wheel does NOT spin backwards during surge. You do understand that if it spins at say 100,000 - 180,000 rpm in one direction, it can't suddenly spin in the other direction - it would just break into a million pieces under this sort of load.

The GFB article doesn't say anything about the compressor spinning in the other direction, it says the compressor blades "slip" - as in, instead of pushing the air, they cut through the air, creating the "dosing" sound.

its not make the wheel turn the other direction thats just stupid, it makes that sound form the air going back into the turbo and that sound is the way the air is going through the fins in the turbo. The air from off boost can make the wheel turn the other way :bash: i wouldn't say its going to reduce the turbo's life by 1/4 either, you would wreck your turbo if you didnt have a pod filter on the end and drive for ages due to getting fod damage hitting the fins and causing them to chip.

    Thank you.

Really, it bothers me to think that grown adults believe that a small metal / ceramic fan can spin up to 180,000 rpm and then suddenly spin the other way because some air pushed up against it..

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

Bwaaaahahahaha dont be so hysterical about a bit of wank!!!

There is little, if ANY hard evidence to support the theory that fluttering/dosing actually shortens turbo life by any figure let alone damaging wheel blades and so-on. Just speculation.
Nor does the compressor wheel suddenly stop from arounf 60 to 80,000RPM and magically go backwards twisting the shaft around like a string of licorice!! Have a think about this......... 60 to 80 THOUSAND rpm......... Some of the taddle-tales spouted forth from the nay-sayers about compressor wheels spinning into orbit due to stalling are laughable at best!
Almost a preposterous as the notion that a BOV reduces turbo lag...... now thats a funny one!

The compressor wheel simply stalls as airflow stops. Much the same as a boat propellor cavitates/surges/stalls/whatever term you like to add!
Its true that the stable airflow around the wheel is disrupted and possibly applies uneven loadings to the wheel and the shaft.
However, air just isnt quite as destructive as water is to a boat prop.

The freqency of the flutter is dependant on many random factors and just large diameter pipes and lots of volume dont necessarily guarantee it.

Dosing is achieved by adding some pipe (straight is best it seems) directly to the inlet snout of the turbo and using a very open gauze pod filter or no filter at all for best effect. Gives that distinctive, decending in note "Choo choo choo" kinda sound that accompaniese fluttering.
The dose note can be "tuned" to a certain extent with different lengths and diameters of pipe.

M8, if thats what gets you hard and a couple of laughs then go right ahead. You wont hurt anything.
Why not show some imagination and poke a whistle, or a shooters duck caller or something else like that squarks into the bov recirc hose? Its farken funny!!!!!!!

Fulli shiiiiik, ohh moi gawdss mayyyts. Dose FTW!!!!!!!! LMAO
