i was just surfing and lookng at a thread on weight savings for wheels.. at any rate wheels are an expensive item to buy.. but it certainly made me start thinking about wheel lugs, which are relatively inexpensive. i cant afford featherweight rims but some average rims and lighter lugs could be a go http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-79243.html
You could but any benefit would be negligible. Just save the $$ up and import some good wheels off Yahoo Japan or trawl SAU and NS for some second hand ones already in the country.
Agreed as they are at the centre of the wheel so less force is needed to sling them round and round than the "rim" which is much father out. That said, my mate had a set of leight weight nuts for his WRX. You almost couldn't feel them in your hand. IT was like holding air (each nut, not the whole lot) He then didn't want them and offered them to me and I said no....coz they were red....and I didn't want red on my car :bash:
i was surprised when i got my wheels. going from heavy chromies to super lightweight wheels and nuts was a noticeable improvement in feel, better throttle response at least. its probably equivalent to a lightened flywheel.
Doesent tell you the style etc, I dont know, seems all the light wheels are fail look wise is all, and cant tell from just looking at the weight by how they look
Go for a look through the wheel manufacturer's websites and find out. Work Volk Rays BBS And there are plenty more out there. Good lightweight wheels are not cheap new.
A nice set of 3 piece Volks took my previous zed from grand tourer to race car . Best $700 I ever spent.
i think even tho the weight is close to the center of the rim when the wheel is spinning the centifugal force shifts the weight to the outer edge of the wheel. the exercise of replacing wheels with lighter ones is more about unloading the suspension so its more responsive than actually going faster. 2% higher top speed isnt really all that important and while some people would notice the difference in torque i think youd more likely notice the feel around corners. im lucky my zed came w some aftermarket 16s. i suppose they do the job.
Yes but they don't tend to torque about their nuts as much as we do. Boom boom. I hope that was his GF's finding, not yours.
