Why say the VG is a prick to work on, you just need time, patience, 2 extra elbows, fingers 5" long with extra knuckles and eyes on the end of stalks, much like Chrispy:eek:

you have been here long enough should know this topic has been covered few times, and search you can find info.

have you really touched the vg30dett engine yet? it is hard to work on but not extremely unfriendly.

rb26+box cost you heaps already, probably as much as a NA Z, and plus the hassles and labour cost, dont wanna think about it.
also dont know how tight it will be in Z's engine bay, probably no better than vg in it.

good point? easy to get parts, look at sau, you can find heaps.

    2c thought

thats a hell of a tight fit in the s15 so i'm sure it would be the same if not tighter in a z32

what are your reasons for wanting the rb26 though?
by the time you buy the motor, gearbox, custom driveshaft, engine mounts, exhaust, have the loom modified ect its going to cost you alot of money.

if your budget is around 10k for an engine swap you may aswell add another 5k... compare a standard rb26 to a VG30 with 15k spent on it.

    i know what i'd choose

or maybe i should just spend that 15,000 modding what i already have would make more sense

    EXACTLY!

spend around 8 k on the engine and then do your suspension/wheels/brakes and you'd have an awesome zed.

Yeah go buy an RB26... So easy to do that swap, not to mention cheaper to work on! lol

(go look at some parts prices for RB26s)

+ add another $1k for the Nismo RB26 oil pump that can supply adequate pressure at revs. Ha.

but thats in a LHD zed... with the ITB/plenum on the rb26 i dont think it would leave alot of room for the BMC and the clutch master cylinder.

that and for some reason i dont like the idea of cutting the rad support one bit.

    better off with a VQ30/35 or a VH45 IMHO

    would this work?

keep the z32 rear end, tailshaft, gearbox, swap bellhousing with RB25/26, retain standard transmission mounts then go and do the conversion for just the engine.

Pretty much, that's how I would do it.

Pete (zturbo) is running the GTR gearbox with the transfer case cut off not sure how the mounts went though.

He had the whole lot done with new HKS turbos, new headgasket, power FC including labour done for a very reasonable price at GT auto or something like that here in Brissy. Very neat conversion, money well spent IMO.

VG30DETT is a much better than RB26 for these simple reasons. VG is more reliable especially iwth big power, makes more power easier and cheaper, weight further back in engine bay. Not worth the headache for a backwards step. VQ30 or VH45 is a much better and cheaper result.

yes that looks good because of the custom work needed to make it fit. the radiator setup alone looks expensive. proper conversions like that isn't cheap.
