This may be treated as a stupid question. BUT Ive almost finished my car. New suspension, interior, engine, paint. ect I want to wind back my ODO because it would have sentimental value. Reading 00000 would mean a lot considering the amount of time money and effort i put into it. So how would i do it? a PM would do, you dont have to post here. The ODO reads about 40k i think ATM, so its not like its a genuine reading anyway.
look at the bottom of this guide http://www.angelfire.com/geek/vg30dett/Cluster/Fix_Cluster.htm tells you how to do it
Pull the cluster apart, hold the stoppers away from the cogs and wind away. Word of warning, be careful as the numbers are marked easily and also let the DOT know the odo reading has changed. I did this to an RS2000 I restored a while ago for the same reason as you, it is a good feeling knowing every km on it was put there by you.
Congratulations guys, you have proved publicly why the odo readings dont mean shit when it come to buying or selling a zed got any bypassing the car alarm tips ?????? Some people have no sense :bash:
that info really shouldn't be posted. it should be PM'd like how do i break into my zed because i locked the keys inside...
So? Im sure if people wanted to wind back the odo, break into cars, disable alarms ect. They would find their own means.
got help us if somebody posts tips on how to sell a 300zx! ...aww c'mon, someone post some tips already!
Yes but , its public info available to anyone who could be bothered looking through tt.net tech guides .... not exactly a secret
no need to rewind .. those lovely little japanese sellers have already done it for you ... .. a bit like woolworths ... "thawed for your convenience" ... lol....
i dont blame the guy for winding it back.......if your average joe who buys a car really knew that a cars condition and how well it is has nothing to do with kays then you wouldnt need to........people would pay $$$ for a car with less kays that was in worse condition...... anyways most cars are clocked back.......its not going to effect anyone here coz if you know your cars you will be looking at how well the car is maintained, or how well the engine is by getting compression tests, dynos etc etc.... maybe im wrong though, maybe the chassis deteriotates with respect to kms travelled..... but what ive said above is strickley what i believe....
but it is illegal. mine read 270,000 farkkkk.. would wind it back, but i like knowing how legit the kms are.
When u pull the odo out there are a number of thin strips of metal positioned in a way that any movement to the odo will bend them, making it obvious that the odo has been tambered with if anyone else looks in the future.
At first I thought this was a stupid question, but I as long as you let the transport place know you have a "new dash" so to speak I believe it is a good thing as long as the intensions aren't there to trick a buyer with say 50,000kms less than what is actually stated. But I do know how you feel with the sentimental thing and work that is involved in making a car look and feel good.
Replacing odo's or complete speedo heads is a common thing in the industry. If the change of km is registered with the appropriate aurthority any schmo can phone and ask about the vehicles' history, this will give them the info they need, km at last registration or km at speedo/odo change. This is an accpeted repair and perfectly legal. Altering a cars spec, km or year without alerting the potential buyer is illegal. Winding the clock back is acceptable as long as the change is reported.
Anyone wanting to do this should take 100% responsibility for their own actions. Any advice regarding legalities should also be confirmed, as these laws are applied state by state. In Western Australia it is illegal to tamper with the odometer. $50,000 fine. http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/consu...r operations/Penalties_and_infringements.html
