I had a bush basher falcon while on my P's and on LPG cheap as to run. 1st Zed NA ate a lot of money and my 2nd zed's TT gearbox just gave in and cost me $3700 but they're a really awesome car to drive.

Mate if your goin be workin and have 14K to spend take your time cos you will definatley get a mint zed for that amount.
My Aus-spec cost me $13800 2 years ago some might thing thats a bit high, but it was from a 65 yr old lady how had it from brand new with only 80 000km, and the 100km service was done at 75 000km :D:D
In two years have only done regular maintenance myself and dad dropped the box out for a new clutch. The rest of my money has gone to mods and ive had it from 17 while still at school and now first year uni.
Though i do stress take your time finding the right one as it will pay of in the long run.
I had a choice between a modded n/a which was pretty good even had a 2k spec front bar, wish i new what that was when i was buyin a zed  though i have never regreted buying my zed

    Regards
    Matt

    Another p plate z owner

hey mate just wanted to add my 2 cents worth, I was in your exact same situation like 12 months ago. Same as you i love the z but 12 months ago in wa good ones were 12k plus. So i bought a front wheel drive celica just to start off with, basically to learn to drive on your own in during our "red p plate stage.'

So after about two years of looking at z's i bought one about two months ago (12 months after being on P's), bit the buleet and got one unlicensed ect but cheap. Best way to learn about cars as im not afraid to take it apart.

i wouldn't have done things any other way as i have a reliable car there at the moment whilst i can have some z time :) So yeh i think i did the smart thing, but if you really want a z like i did, you will get one when the right one pops up. But keep looking and know what your buying and find out about approx cost of repairs ect.

Oh one more thing, if you have a gf then the z is going to make her jealous with the amount of loving it will get :)

yeah that's a good option too, i bought a shitbox first. saved a heap of money and did all my crashing in it. looking back that was a great decision. 1 of the crashes i had was a guy in a ute doing a road rage hit and run on me which caused quite a lot of damage.

if it was the zed that would have been very expensive to fix.

I'm a P plater/ NA Z owner (first car too). That said I'm off my P's this October :), and I park her in a reasonably safe place filled with other attractive cars (WRX's, Skylines, XR's, even a TT Z32).

Well my advice would be to avoid it, your on your P's, you WILL have a smash.
Best to wait out your P's with something easy, commonwhore on LPG a good start, so hopefully by the time your off your P's all the stupid little mistakes have gone from your driving and then you can enjoy spending your cash on an awesome car.

Well its what I did and well worth it since my first car was a write off and you hear of so many peoples 1st cars that are written off.

    Either way good luck

If you've got enough money to buy it, insure it, service it and have $2000+ sitting in your bank account at all times (in case you need it for maintenance/accidents etc.) then go for it.

Not all P-platers have accidents. I dropped $12k on an MR2 as my first car and still have it to this day, without a single accident. Not even a tiny scratch from parking accidents. Nothing.

Whilst I didn't own a zed, I can't comment on that.. but my MR2 was probably very similar in running costs and parts, being an import too.

Like I said, if you've got the money, buy it. You'll be the envy of all your friends :zlove:

i have an NA 300zx as a first car, keep in mind that they are an old car and a VERY expensive one when new. It has cost me around $10-$12k over the past 2.5 years (excluding initall purchase price ($11k) and obvious ongoing costs such as rego, insurance and petrol), alot of that wasnt necesary but the mod bug bites sooner or later :D. Its an awesome car, but make sure you get a good one. Spend a little more on initial purchase and get it inspected by someone who knows their shit, in the long run you'll save alot doing this
