hey guys, installed a pair of thermo fans on my 300zx NA- Manual

currently they are operating under a manual switch. i want to put a thermo switch but dont know at what degrees the fans are supposed to come on at. like what is operating temperature on these cars. is there a certian spot the switch should go in, i was thinking beside the temp sensor. anything else i should know.

    help is apreciated

Thermostat is set at 79C. Typically you should look at setting a thermatic switch around 84 as it will have a deadband to switch off a few degrees lower than this. Mount the probe inside the top radiator hose.

Most switches seem to have a 5 degree difference, meaning that if they come on at say 84 degrees, then they wont turn off till the temp drops to 79.
Now I know on my car that's not gonna happen so once the fans come on they would stay on.

My old thermo was set to come on at around 88 degrees, and then off at 83. This seemed to keep it cycling on and off and controled the temperature quite well. At idle anyway ;) I wont go into all the other cooling dramas I had with thermo fans!

i've read a few cases of people switching back to the clutch fan as thermos simply weren't enough to keep the car cool during hard runs.

if u never give the car a caining it's probably ok but honestly, who buys a sports car to drive around softly?

I think that if you have a twin fan setup you're not going to flow as much as a 16" thermo. If you want to go thermo check out SPAL and ZIRGO brands from the US. They flow 3000cfm+ Zirgo in particular has a low amp draw. I originally tried a thermo switch with with my fan but found it too troublesome, now I have it hooked up to a relay controlled by a switch in the cabin. Just leave it running all the time when i drive and have no problems. Temps do get a bit higher than normal when doing low speed, high revs for a sustained amount of time (normal driving doesnt get above 80deg). I have an FMIC but am yet to do any shrouding. I removed the nose panel under similar conditions it made a big difference to temps so i am confident I can overcome it. Car is a lot more responsive not having to spin a propellor too!
