I may be confused(after all, I am ancient)but my SMIC's are between the turbo outlet(boosted air)and the throttle bodies, NOT before the turbo inlet.
The only thing leading to the turbo inlet on my car is the pipework from the Pod filter(and this could easily have a bolt dropped into it)if partially disassembled.:confused::zlove:

I have another one for Nissan in Gosford.

Took my Z in to fix a sump leak. They fixed it. The next day while driving to a conference for work discovered the steering developed massive freeplay. To the point that 5km was the max speed I could drive. Took the car to Jax lifted it up on the hoist and could not believe what we found. The driver side tie rod end was hanging by a no kidding a thread. No safety pin, nothing. Had I taken the car on the F3 that morning, you would have heard about me - absolutely no doubt. This resulted in almost loosing my life and a massive inconvinience that morning. Called Nissan to inform them and they offered.....wait for it..... $50 off the next job. Bullshit. Never again. Since that incident, the executive decision was to do all the work myself no matter how long it takes. This decision has paid off masively. I was told at Jax this is not uncommon and was informed of an incident of a SAAB and lets just say somethign about not bolting in a cross member tight. This should make anyone think seriously about so called proffesional mechanics. Garbage. A so called backyard mechanic like myself does 300% better work.

I reckon nissan Australia has way more money and better lawyers than anyone on this site. Its one thing to start a fight, but another thing to start a fight you know you can win :p

By rights they should have taken the intake pipe off in front of the radiator. Do you have an aftermarket cone type air filter? I only mention this as it makes taking the intake Y-pipe off much easier. Two hose clamps and it's free.

Once this is off the intakes that LEAD to the turbos are upwardly turned, and actually quite a large diameter. Easy for a bolt to fall into especially if placed on the radiator support panel like a lot of mechanics use to store stuff they take off a motor, and accidentally knocked off and into the intake.

Absolutely spot on Brad. Most things that "couldn't possibly happen" usually do(and mostly because of someone being so "experienced" that they no longer take that extra bit of care).

God what a rediculous situation, I dont think Id handle it very well if it were myself. Sounds like there shouldnt be too much hassle getting nissan to pay for their damage, going to be pretty difficult attempting to deny fault in court, I doubt they will even try to fight it once you get serious and get a solicitor involved.

the bolts on the inlet water houseing will be the same as the thermostate houseing, one of them will be different in apperance. DAMN i hate dealers and their incompetance!

    nail on head :D

    but .......

why would they have removed the 'Y'pipe and filter in the first place
there is no gain from "extra room" unless they also removed the aircon evaporator ;)
which to me would be as logical as removing the guards so you could actually get closer to the engine bay
    :D

    &

something doesnt sound right with the whole story to me .... like....

"a few additional scratches" oh come on :rolleyes2:

I've seen the after effects of a bolt going through a turbo, & a few additional scratches is certainly NOT the description I would use
As for that bolt being "identifiable"............. coughbullshitcough
