Hey guys, so theres been alot of interest for audi style lights in our cars, and im trying to see what i can do that will be a good substitute for the lights that will look good, when on and off, and wont get in the way of the headlights itself, problems being faced are that anything made must look stock or very clean, as it can be easily seen in daylight, something i was having a look at doing was a curved rod, or bar, that sits against the front edge of the glass on the headlight, heres an unmoulded demo with a blue light, is there interest in this style of light to be worth designing and making a better design mush like the angel eyes? heres a 2 second demo i made earlier i know its in blue i will make one in white when i get the chance
not in blue imho....needs to be white...and needs to bend up the left side of that head light....i think individual leds would be best....ones with globes about 7-10mm squares
white will look better, yeah gonna try moulding it to the curve soon, the problem with individual led's is it looks crap in daylight, as theres no real neat way to house led's like that,
How do Audi do it? Here's someones attempt, not bad at all: http://www.tsxclub.com/forums/1st-g...-mod-pics-updated-night-shots-07-04-08-a.html
haha ok that looks very good, not like its something to make, but just to drill and mount led's along the bottom of the insert the whole way round, its much like hes done but he has mounted a strip along the bottom,
Reckon something like these might work.. http://www.boogey.com/products/cut-n-click/Cut-N--Click-Flexible-LED-Strip/
Mate your a legend with all your led work for this forum!! Thank you Keep it up its awesome stuff, because it really bring up the Z to the new era of LED lights. ps: go with the strip on page 3 of the honda accord linky above.
that blue is a total demo dont think i like it either thanks man, and each to their own, im trying to work out a way to replicate the audi lights but without looking wrong at the same time, the issue with our lenses over the ones on that accord are that ours is glass, and light reflects differently, so if we mounted led's like he has, we will get light spots all over the glass lense where he doesnt on the plastic, i just did a test run mounting led's and it looked shocking with light spots. at the moment im working on another set of taillights as iv made 3 so far and havnt liked aspects of them
not sure if you guys know this. but you can buy a stip that wires directly onto whatever you want (like neons) and they just stick on to whatever you like,... ebay sell them.. so do some autobarn put a set on a ford falcon AU xr6 today... looked shit..
I've said it before and I'll say it again, blue neons/lights are illegal. They'll attract cops like fly's to shit. However this "audi look" idea has been done, quite costly though.
did u bother reading? the blue is just a test sample. also the angel eyes in your pic psychodelik has already made, he's contemplating doing a light up strip now (the eye liner or whatever audi calls it) either way, IMO these thigns are tacky, we drive zeds not audis.
just to clarify YES I KNOW BLUE IS ILLEGAL, white is not, in anyway, your allowed white lights anywhere on your car, including white underbody neons, because its white, ok yeah test sample, poor test sample but when i get back from qld on monday ill be making a real test run for my car that ill post up as i think its gonna look awesome, yeah, it does look tacky agreed, im trying to work out a way to make it less tacky though, and who'd wanna drive an audi when you have a Z :zlove:
as the first pics were a complete demo, heres what i threw together earlier, so far all iv done is melt the acrylic and form it into the shape needed, the bar runs across the front edge and outer side of the headlight, sitting inside in the upper corner, heres pics of the rod so far, you have to look pretty hard to see, note one photo of it from the outside, one from the inside inside: outside:
Ever looked at this? http://www.glowire.com/plugplay.htm was looking at get some for when i get my seats done, and having it in the stitching...
i have about 15 metres of this in blue i bought over a year ago, it looks cool, but only if sitting it a gap between stitching or joining panels because its a wire its almost impossible to make it strait or look strait when its sitting by itself, when looking upclose
