hey all. my zed has no power when its cold, backfires, hesitates, splutters and doesnt really go... when in neutral and bringing the revs up slow, it gets hard at about 1500 and lags then fires up to over 3k and sounds fine and is responsive (only in neutral)... some times it can take longer than when the temp says its hot to actually come good... and sometimes it doesnt come good at all... any ideas?

    Forgive me if wrong....

... but haven't we been down this path before?

Post a concise history of problems/fixes and diagnostic errors etc.

lol my dog does run better than my car atm!

consult says all clear; all sensors perfect; just put in S2 PTU and showing a mark improvement.

have done a plenum pull and bypassed hoses, replaced o2 sensors. cleaned AFM, fixed timing belt, put a pod on it. near new iridium sparkies, recently serviced.

i dont know how this is apparant and it may be coincidental but when its not running good the AAC and EGR solenoids dont appear to be active according to the consult... when they are all good they dont activate at the same time any way but it seems both dont work at the same time if that makes sense.

every now and then the injectors seem alot louder than usual for some reason...

i dont know what else their is to say!? hope that helps!!!!

If you injectors sound louder it may be from fuel starvation causing a lack of lubrication.
Before I go on I'll admit that is only a theory but to me it sounds plausible.
Check everything you can that affects fuel delivery, starting with fuel pressure.

    Cheers,
    Dave

ok soz to bump this old thread but it shows the most recent history. i've replaced the fpcu (thanks tecktrader) and things are a bit clearer but not all clear... until the car gets up to temp it runs like sh!t... stupidly rich and back fires and stutters... i have no idea any more what this could be... my only thoughts are that it could be something to do with a sensor that is affected by heat (ie. O2 sensors, which i replaced 6 months ago)... im going to put the consult on again tomorrow and check the figures but im not gonna hold my breath coz it hasnt shown any faults yet...

    any thoughts? any one? lol

    cheers in advance

im having similar problems and having my injectors cleaned next week to try and sort it out, if its only when cold could maybe be a vac leak or multiple leaks that would expand and seal when warm? or same goes for connectors?

    im no expert though.

    cheers mike

Well, you can always unplug the 02 sensors, and if nothing changes i'd say you can rule them out. One plug is on the drivers side of the plenum (two there, it's the one closer to the firewall) and the other plug is on the top back middle of the plenum.

have you had the balance tube off recently, if so remove and replace the O-rings between balance tube and plenum

Sounds like the afm or ptu are playing up. Unlikely to be vac/boost leaks, 02's or injectors wont cause backfiring. Check the pins in the afm connector and replace the ptu.

cheers guys the vac leak sounds plausable and i'll try unplugging the o2 sensors too. sorry tordek its NA, i had some dramas after the plenum pull with leaks, but they're sorted now... im gonna keep trying though, one other question off topic, my gf deleted my photos and diagrams of the vac lines on the plenum so i probs dont hav the vac lines on the passenger side going to the right places... and tips?

already replaced ptu (thanks tektrader!) and runs better, had afm out tested and cleaned but it has never missed a beat any way... the car has more or less done this since i bought it last august. just seemed to get worse over time... i'll check the afm again too
cheers guys keep up the brilliant info and tips :)
