    Can anyone please help me.

Rollin is looking into another problem for me. He is very busy at the moment.

I have a serious problem that needs to be fixed today or urgently as i need the car for work. I drive it regularly and daily and to different locations throughout the day.

    The problem:

The Idle revs to 2 and drops to 0 and the car turns off. I turn it back on and it revs to 1 then jumps to 2 and drops to 0 then back to 1 then back to 0 and turns off.

I need a mechanic or someone that can look into this problem for me as soon as possible.

I would really appreciate all your input on this matter.

    Help is needed urgently

    Thank you

    kind regards

Sounds like a major vac leak, check all your hoses and listen for hissing in the engine bay / intercoolers if you have any.

It's a NA No Intercooler. It's hard to listen to when the revs go up and down constantly...

Can a ny mechanic look into this problem?

make sure all vac hoses are connected
when i bought my car it started doing this so i went into the engine bay and
what had happened is one of the hoses had expanded in the heat and you could hear
a high pitched hiss for there. i suggest going to where all vac hoses are either t'd or cut into and just cable tie them down

Lol, I wouldn't. Just triple check every pipe and if you see any open nipples then there's your problem. Either that, or your IAV units are f*cked or disconnected. Check those connectors in the passenger rear of the engine. If any of them are disconnected you would either get a constant high idle or just not be able to idle at all. There are 2 2-pins behind the IAV units themselvs, then one on the side closer to the middle (next to the DET / VCT connectors).

Disregard text, the connectors are the ones circled in green.

    An Update...

I turned the car on yesterday again and it was driving fine... I drove it at night nothing happened. I drove it again this morning nothing happened.. until i came to work.

It started choking and then when I stopped the idle dropped bang to 0 and it turned off. I turned it back on it seemed fine then 2 minutes later when I came to a stand? boom bang back to 0.

    Any suggestions?

I checked the engine bay and everything seems fine? I can?t figure out what it could be..

    Air flow meter?

    regards

i have a feeling the amp isnt plugged in properly...

i was driving mine with no afm and it would idle at 2000 and drop to 0 if i didnt keep the revs up...

    check plug for any dirt...

checked your spark plugs? they could be extremely fouled.

So it cranks normally and then just dies? It has to be a major vac leak. Or it's critically over/underfuelling? Can you smell fuel in the engine bay at all?

With N/A's there aren't too many places where you can leave a hose off and have it stall. If you left the front intake pipes off, it would do exactly as you have described. Crank normally, rev and then die. This would be because your Idle air valve isn't getting any air because there is no negative pressure in the intake pipes.

Just follow those hoses from the back of the engine from the IAV valves that I showed you, to the passenger side intake pipe.

If it's anything other than a dead battery then I don't think Lube Mobile is going to know wtf is going on.... and charge you money for it.

NO it's not under of over fueled...

I turn it on and it stays normal and then the revs start going down to 0.5 and back to 1.

I checked the Air Flow Meter and it does not seem to be dirty.

I turned it on before... It was idling normal for 10 minutes and just dropped back to 0 then jumped to 2 and then to 0 and it turned off

    Me "sorry, it's a 300zx"

    Lube Guy "350?" confusion face...

Me "No it's a 300zx from Japan... Import"

Lube Guy "Oh yeah, started talking stories about japan"

Me "thinking... wtf is going on"

Lube Guy "inspecting... 30 minutes later after few Japanese stories... Sorry mate, i don't have the computer here to check... Where do you plug it in anyway on these cars?? asking me...

Me "Don't worry about it... I think i am going tomorrow to the Nissan Dealership"

    The End...

Check to see if ur fuel dampner and reg is not leaking ,pull off the vac side hoses and see if there is fuel coming out , they should be both dry.
    Sounds like ur over fuelin.

    and the sad part is....

that you will get exactly the same reaction from the Nissan dealership. Seriously, take it to a zed expert. I know the zed is just another car, but Nissan Australia knows sweet stuff all about the Z32...

Thats what i am trying to do... There are no Z experts around. The one i now i know is not available.. Sad news i guess... :(

I would also make sure you have good fuel pressure. Not too much either.

To be fair I think the 300 is a bit much for a lube mobile guy to problem solve, they really are only good for basic work such as changing your oil and filters or changing a light bulb:cool:
