Hey all, Sad sad news. Was driving down Warrigal Rd towards Princes Hwy near Oakleigh on way to Chaddy and some idiot girl in an echo decided to turn blindly in front of me. I was in far left lane (of 3), other 2 lanes were backed up with traffic and she was coming from opposite direction and turned right. She proceeded through the 'Keep Clear' zone without looking to see if there was anyone in the far lane. Unfortunately there was... me!! Hit her rear left quarter at roughly 45-50km/hr and because of the shape of the Zed/Echo i literally scooped her up and her car flew through the air, spun 180 degrees and landed 7 metres away on the footpath. I managed to limp the poor girl to safety around the corner and switched her off immediately. Got out and saw entire front bar was destroyed including headlights/fogs. Both front quarter panels were warped, bonnet has buckled and radiator punctured as i could see glycol and water pissing out from underneath. Could drive her on to the tow truck but getting her off was very difficult and she was struggling for life... Therefore I suspect the end is nigh for the old girl. Pics to follow when I can figure out how to get them off my iphone... Im devatstated and angry!!!! what kind of stupid bitch crosses 3 lanes of traffic without even looking?!?! I mean, she didnt even creep forward to check which would have at least allowed me to see her nose so i could slow down, she just went straight through!! GRR! Anyway, down to business. I need to get the car assessed for insurance purposes to AAMI standards. So if anyone can recommend some good places that know the TRUE value of zeds and understand how precious these things are then I would greatly appreciate it if you could post some contact details up so I can get this sorted out ASAP. Thanks all...
Sorry, I should note that I am in South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Car is outside my house in Sandringham and I am looking for places that are close to me... Cheers
Dam, was that this morning, I heard about an accident near the intersection! I'm not sure of who can look after you car wise, but to get your photos off your iphone, just connect it to your PC, instead of going through iTunes just go to My Computer. you should see the iphone as if it was a portable device, double click and you should be able to find it from there... Hope she isnt a writeoff! I've seen photos of some members cars pretty badly damaged, and have made it, it all depends on whats not repairable, a radiator can be changed easy..but hopefully you can get someone good to look it over as all the places I can think of arent close...
Ring aami...or who ever your insured with(i assume you'd have already done this) and they will assess it themselves, theyll usually tow them to an assessment centre... these cars dont take much to get written off so its probably not good news...
im not too keen to get it done through AAMI themselves as Im sure the people that AAMI use are either a) in AAMI's pocket or b) fundamentally useless when it comes to knowing anything about zeds. they prob specialise more in VY commodores or honda jazz's and the last time they saw a Z was way back in 1998... either way I dont necessarily trust their processes
Well i dont think you have much choice...when mine was written off assessor comes out, checks out the damage will decide whether the car is a financial loss... and as to the specialising in commies or jazzes, theyre all cars underneath... edit: btw how much is it insured for?
sorry to say but it's gonna be a write off without question from just a description of the damage. the above is apparently a write off according to the insurance company... clearly it's easily fixable but with the market value so low and quotes using new parts from nissan you'll find it easily exceeds the uneconomical to repair threshold. rather than run around yourself, just let them know so they send a assessor over and expect the worst.
Doesn't it depend on what kind of issurance you had? Was it insured for market or purchase price? HBF valued my Zed as $6,500 (as per "market price") when i got my insurance done... i bought it for $9,000 so i had it insured for purchase price instead.
I had a similar issue a few years back, took my car straight to Zed Shop in Glen Iris & let them handle the quote. As they're a zed specialist they knew absolutely everything that needed replacing & the car ended up fantastic. Insurance covered the tow truck trip as well (had to pay initially but was reimbursed) & only needed the one quote as I wasnt at fault. cheers, Tim
if it were mearly cosmetic damage that was going to cost a lot to fix i'd say accept the write off, buy back the wreck and fix your baby up nice. some members have done this and come out infront. however if you punted an echo 7m i'd suggest the front of your chassis is warped. perhaps it can be fixed but i personally would probably take the write off in this case. I've seen a car be straightened on a rig before. hearing the noises it makes and having talked to a motorsport engineer he says their race cars a NEVER the same after straightening, and they spend a lot more time (do it properly) than any garage would. again i would buy back the wreck if your zeds other machanicals were good, and sell parts whilst keeping good bits to transfer into your new z. some members may contradict me and if a member happens to have a reputable body shop and reckons he can do it, go with him!
actually dont be so quick to jump to conclusions, sounds VERY similar to the damage i had after my incident with a guard rail . front bar, 2 quarter panels, bonnet, windscreen, radiator, 1 headlight, nose panel, timing belt covers, throttle cable cover ALL destroyed. zeds front end being so low it kinda went under the guard rail and peeled the bonnet back onto the windscreen at around 50km/h. there was no structural damage and repairs ended up costing $5500, of which i paid $900, gotta love comprehensive insurance :zlove:
Do doors, targas, glovebox etc all line up still and shut properly? Also any pics under the bonnet...
Passenger door seems fine but the drivers door now has a bit of resistance when closing it. It doesnt seem to be hanging as per usual. Need to check targas and glovebox. Cant get any pics under the bonnet. Bonnet release mechanism has failed and due to how the bonnet came to rest, i cant get it open without jimmying it with a crowbar or something and i dont want to cause anymore damager until the assessor sees it. I tried to get some photos through the little gap on the left hand side but you really cant see much although it looks as though the position of the engine is off slightly??
Doesn't look like a write off to me. I'd say its around 3-5k worth of damage From pics the gap still looks alright between the door/fender
that doesnt actually look that bad... few parts (upgrades??) and she looks like she could be alright, as long as everything lines up and shuts properly
Sorry champ, That looks like a pretty certain write off. Car value 7-9K anything above 2/3K to fix will write the car off. I hope your agreed value is high. Happy shopping.
that car will most likely be declared a repairable write-off looks like the radiator support panel will ahve copped it by the way the lights and nose panel are all twisted and contorted into funny positions.... sorry to say it mate
I got tboned once by a clown who did the exact same thing, turning through multiple lanes of traffic..
