The Sydney ZED Car Club has just learned that Golbourn is a go ahead for the 2011 Sydney Zed Car Nationals. We have been given the go ahaed by the council and have just learned that we have also secured Wakefeild Park as our motor sport venue! The club is trying to get back to the Zed tradition by having a ZED NATIONALS, if possible catering exclusively to the ZED cars. Lets all try to get along and show our support and toss in any idea's for potential sponsorship as this will also help to keep the entry costs down. Cant wait and those that went to the 2005 Sydney Nationals will know what great event that was!

I agree Mikey. I'll be there no matter which way it goes, but I think they will alienate a lot of members if they try and have a Z only meet.

Based on some of the things they have said on the record, alienating people is not much of an issue with them.

Too true Barry. The presentation dinner at Goulbourn alienated a lot of people who weren't into the private joke. Anyone still cringe everytime they hear "happy birthday to you......"?

The move back to the ZED specific Nationals was actually prompted back in Victoria when the BEST ZED Trophy went to a Skyline, and also the point that there were no catagory for Zeds on the concourse. The Queensland group are not having any Zed recognition either. This would not be a problem except that the Nationals Was started by a ZED Club and since seems to have been hyjacked. The Skylines have their own events, the Sylvias have their own events etc etc. The Sydney club feels as though the importance of ZEDS is being lost. This is a Zed club event and the Skylines (and the other modles aswell) dont return the invites. The door may yet have to be opened to the other Nissan/Datsun clubs to make the event financially viable. Time will tell.

Q started the Zed nationals back when it was a novel concept and there was very little in the way of car people events. It was exclusively for Zeds then. Since then the scene has changed a lot though, there are heaps of events for car people now and the 'nationals' name is often used to describe any car event at all.

In Q the Nationals would just not be financially possible now if restricted to Zeds. Besides a lot of people think that its a better event for everyone if the Nationals embrace all performance Datsun/Nissans, don't know about anyone else but I for one get a bit bored with the S30 domination in Zed numbers doing sprints, thats the way it is in Q anyway.

Then in Vic the Nationals are run by a composite club, I guess that they would find it impossible to exclude part of their membership from such an event. The other point is the possibility that the non Zed enthusiasts will start doing their own Nationals. That would really put the whole concept at risk, certainly in Q.

Not knowing too much about the history of it all and really knowing the facts, like other people, but reading all the comments so far I don't think there is much of the risk at all. Let's face it, if you are a car enthusiast and especially in the Make of Nissan as such, does it matter the name of an event.

For example, before attending the last Z Fest in Cowra we asked if all Nissans are welcome and in particular Skyline R32. We had a friend who was really interested in coming along, supporting us in the competition but also looking forward to seeing other Zeds and what people have done and doing with their cars.

We were told that everyone is welcomed, so he came along. It was our 1st meet with guys on the forum so we really didn't know what to expect. Apart from heaps of people loving their cars and sharing the same passion. Everyday we went out we heard comments like "what is that skyline doing here" etc. Our friend was really upset and said that he will not join us on any event or cruise this forum invites us to.

I guess the point of the story is that it is one thing to say "all welcome" and make them feel very unwelcome on the day, and the other to be open in the invitation and follow some tradition.

I am up for it and I think we should all just enjoy our cars, share them with others and move passes the grudges and things... Time has passed and no one is perfect. I am sure that people who love Z cars, even though they may not have one, would come and enjoy themselves. From personal experience we were very welcomes on our first meet with Sydney Zed Club and they are great bunch of people.

I hope we find the numbers Nick.

I personally don't care what these events are called(unless it's "The Grey-headed Old Fart Meet"), but I DO care about what level of acceptance is afforded to those who choose to participate.

I am horrified by the revelation that one of our guests at Cowra was treated in such an unforgivable fashion.
This young man has been welcomed to other "AUS300ZX" outings/events in Sydney, and it is because of the welcome that he received on those occasions, that he decided to come to Cowra.
Since I became involved with this forum(2000),the Sydney group have always welcomed non-Zed attendees(particularly other Datsun/Nissan owners)with only one stipulation. Those non-Zed vehicles take up the rear end of any Cruise/journey(thereby allowing Zeds to visibly dominate the run).
Those persons who made this(or any other)attendee feel unwelcome, should take a good hard look at themselves. This IS NOT what this group of car enthusiasts should be known for, and I would like it known that I am embarrassed by this news and by the thought of this being seen as acceptable, on any level.
I was labouring under the misapprehension that these gatherings were a "Social Event", sadly that seems not to be the case.
We need to fix this ASAP.:eek::eek:

From what I recall he spat the dummy, the comments were made in jest...

If you can't cop a bit of flack and the occassional getting chucked in a pool then this crazy bunch of nutters may not be the best company.

And Nationals 2011, aren't we looking ahead a bit far? :p

come on chili, you know as well as i do,this forum is made up of 50% car enthusiasts and 50% of kids who buy a zed because they need a girlfriend, dont even know how to change a tyre and think they are king shit ,sad but very true :banned:

I tend to agree with chili, if someone was made to feel unwelcome, and according to Vanessa, it was more than one subgroup, then it does lower the events standing as a social event. And Chrispy, 2011 might be looking a bit far ahead for some, however the people who have put on the Nationals in the past will know that it takes a great deal of time, patience and effort to put on one of these events. The Sydney Zed Car Club is very keen to hold this event and wish to put on as good a show as they can. It was decided upon, by their comittee, to let as many Zed car enthusiasts know about the plans and in future the progress the Nationals. This was seen to be a good way of letting others know of the sincerity of the invitaion to each Zed club and making all feel welcome!

Whilst I don't disagree with your suggestion that some comments may have been "in jest" and should be seen as such(I did not personally hear any such remarks "in jest" or otherwise), I do find this liberal attitude quite surprising, given that almost without exception, every time I choose to make "in jest" comments on here, the long-suffering Mods are deluged with demands for my expulsion(a bit of double standards IMHO).
Where is the "take it on the chin" outlook at those times?
