just wondering what sort of timing the vg30dett can take before it starts to ping? I'm using nistune and am running 23 deg from about 4k to redline with no hint of pining, i thought this seemed a bit high though stock is like 19-20 deg Also do vg30's usually ping before they reach MBT??
The factors that correlate to detonation can vary, mainly from the quality of fuel to the intake charge temperature. 23 BTDC is pretty stock for an N/A although I have tuned a couple of TT's with this sort of timing but with relatively conservative boost on stock turbos. Two questions for you; 1. How do you know it's not pinging? 2. What is MBT?
well you cant hear it pinging I haven't got around to installing a knock detection system as yet. I'm running 1 bar boost on stock turbo's and afr's are pretty close to 12:1 I'll most likely back a few degress out until I upgrade the coolers. mbt-maximum brake torque which you obviously need a dyno to determine
its pretty much done now just fine tuning it, can chuck it in on the weekend if you like, ill richen it up a bit and take timing out for yours though until we can check it with the wideband
I use AMMS too, only bad news for u is that 30 deg difference between IT and AT means a grossly inflated figure
Hey mate, love the figures. Wondering what sort of mods you got, got a list somewhere? Curious because mine hit about 284hp (211.8rwkw) at the wheels not too long ago with a mild tune. Wondering if I can hit something close to yours by fine tuning her if our mods are realtively the same. MoulaZX
19-20 degrees is for pussies..... like JWT & Mr Nissan Mr Nissan had to give a warranty so his maps were peaking at 20 degrees with 9.5 afr's on 9lbs boost....... that combination was removing "detonation" from the dictionary
turns out 23 deg is to much, after a few hot laps at QR it started to ping. So intercooler is now on the endless list of things to do. I think I was also getting some oil in the intake through the pcv's when cornering... maybe?
That kind of timing at that boost, with 98ron fuel is a mixture for detonation. If you can hear detonation while you're driving the car, it's pinging it's friggin brains out! Are you talking about 23degrees where torque is at its max or at redline? Invest in a kmon or something and you'll really hear the knock....!!!
