I want to take the cuddlybear on a Tassie driving holiday. Want to take the Zed - naturally. Anyone had their Zed on the Spirit of Tasmania? Do you drive it on yourself or give it to someone else? My Zed is lowered about 30mm (King springs) and has 18" x 8" s all round. Standard front and rear bars. ... or should I fly and rent a Hyundai Getz? :vomit:
I brought my Zed over on the Spirit. I've got coilovers and they were set quite low at the time, a fair bit lower than in my sig, I had to raise it to pass rego. I drove on myself, the front bar (UAS style) scraped a bit on the way on, not badly though and was fine on the way off. I was put on one of the higher levels though, so the ramp was quite steep. If you're worried about it just tell them and I'm sure they can arrange for you to get on and off safely. They bring the Targa cars over on it after all.
used to work On the Sydney one, drivers load their own cars guided by staff. only the heavy machinery and trucks get loaded by staff.
As Pat has mentioned, all the cars that compete in Targa Tas come on the Spirit. Also, I have noticed Ferrari's, Lamborghini's etc... about the place that would have come via the Spirit, so you shouldn't worry about ground clearance
Thats good to hear,we are looking at bringing the zeds over for a weekend soon and checking out the scenery and roads tassie has to offer :zlove:
Hey Barry Diana & I took mine over on the Spirit not that long back. As you have seen my Zed, you know that it's reasonably low. I had no problems getting on or off at the other end & you drive it on & off yourself. Some great Zed driving roads down there mate & you should look up a few of the forum members in Hobart & surrounds, a very friendly lot. Cheers Kerry & Diana
Thanks Kerry, I've been thinking about exploring Tassie for years. My Zed is certainly no lower than yours so it all looks cool. It's funny to think I have been around the World enough times to have a head spin but I have never seen Tasmania - doh! I haven't seen Broome or further North of that either, but I don't think that would be Zed Country. Great stuff, then away we go! End April/early May is the current plan.
Top stuff!! Let us know when you get down here!! Oh, one tip for travelling on the spirit... take photos of your car/bike from 360 degrees before hand. That way if it gets damaged on the trip over, you have evidence. Also make sure your luggage is packed properly, no access to the car decks after you set sail, and if its rough.... your shit will end up all over the place! Andy
