Hey Guys (and the few gals we have)

I am mid way through a clutch replacement and call me Blonde(hehe i am) or blind but I can't find the torque settings in the tech section (provided they are there :D)

Can anyone give me the right info or point me to a thread that does?

    Thanks, Kel

Try the service manual (that's where the torque settings are), there are links to several copies in the tech section.

    ..

you dont need to torque up (to specific settings) when putting a clutch in.. Rattle gun with at least 650-750 ft/lbs of torque should do the trick.. Make sure you locktite the treads when putting in the clutch also.

Further more, dont grease up anything in that area!!!! make sure you use acetone to clean the surface when putting it all together, cause the moment there is any grease of oil it aint coming out and your clutch will slip.

I like to torque flywheel, and particularily clutch cover bolts. Massive PITA if you strip one or rip a head off. Change the pilot bearing while you are under there.

missing a decimal point there mate? Flywheel bolts and clutch cover bolts must be torqued to correct spec.

In the service manual, on most exploded diagrams, there are numbers in brackets beside each part, these are the torque settings,

understand what the manual says, but your telling me that every mechanic and or competent person out there torques up the flywheel bolts???

That is the point in which it WONT come apart.. Does it show you what pattern you need to torque them then?, to ensure you it is sitting flush?

As mentioned before........... never specified torque settings, but made sure there was enough there to do the job... Some might call it bodgy, but i to this day i have never had a failure!

Yeah they are quite specific in the manual, i think some of the flywheel bolts have different specs.

And yeah any mechanic who calls himself competent would be torquing flywheel and clutch cover bolts, its not that hard

    Agree with

rollin, its the same as using a rattle gun on the wheel nuts, and then woundering why you rotors have warped.

Especially as the torque setting for the clutch cover bolts is about half that of the flywheel.

Also if the flywheel did come off then there is a real danger of part of it entering the cabin and potentially taking a foot off.

Flywheel bolts are torqued to 90 Nm. The clutch bolts are torqued to 40 nm.

You MUST put lock tight on the flywheel bolts. I have seen heaps come loose, It isnt pretty.

Dont use a rattle gun to torque these bolts :nono:
