Remove the windscreen cowl yourself. The windscreen fitters don't take the time to remove the clips, they just lever it up. When it cracks they say it's not their fault because it's so old...
check the screen before they fit it i had one of those aftermarket screens in mine and it was so distorted i ended up getting a second hand genuine screen to replace it
Yeah that's what I was going to ask - and buggered if I know how I am going to spot distortion just by looking at the damm thing which will probably be covered in protective plastic or a coating of some sort. Important tip is to ask for a genuine screen, will see what insurance company says.
hey mate i had mine done a short time ago , n when they removed the windscreen they also removed the rails that hold the side rails in , hard to explain but its a plastic rail that runs from the top of the screen to the bonet , it holds in the mouldings so make sure he doesnt cut them out when he replaces the screen other wise it hard to put the rails in hope it makes sense
OK, on my car there are black rubber strips approx 1cm wide that run down the side windscreen on the drivers and passengers side, Are they the mouldings? Can you buy new plastic rails to hold the mouldings in?
Had a windscreen replaced a couple of years ago (after a stone chip which progressed to a full screen crack). Mobile windscreen repairer. No dramas. Cowls left in place, side strips still intact. $179.
Great news, have ordered the top piece but the side ones are 2 weeks ex Japan. HAve decided to go ahead anyway and not let the windscreen guy outa my sight.
hope it goes well! And where have you been? come on the next cruise! Also not letting the windscreen bloke out of your sight is a must! If your not sure... PM Tekky.. aka Tektrader.. i believe he fitted a new glass after his respray.. did it all himself...and i would trust is advice worst thing is having noob glaziers and other auto fitters breaking all your OEM rubbers and strips!:mad2: See you on our next cruise.
Just a quick post to tell you all the windscreen has been fitted and no probs at all. For anyone at Adelaide I highly recommend O'Briens and ask for Shane - the guy is a an absolute master craftsman - I loved his work.
Great outcome. Like most things on the Zed that you can't tackle yourself, all you need to do is find someone who knows what the H*** they are doing!
The windscreen itself was free courtesy of the insurance company - decided to replace the weatherseal that runs across the top of the windscreen at the outrageous cost of $169 from Nissan. The side mouldings were fine and none of the clips got damaged when Shane removed them which was good - but he had spare clips anyway.
