Ok. i recently (WEDNESDAY) changed my spark plugs with qik300's help. After we connected it all back up.. started the car.. one of them wasnt firing.. we pushed the coil pack in and bingo.. worked like a charm :p drove better too..

YET.. this afternoon, returning home from work, i gave her some foot in 1st god some wheel slip (in the wet) and when i brought her back into line again, i listened, and my when i accelerated at any rate, it made a *brom brom brom* sound.. almost like a much more powerful subaru?

I am generally after advice on what it could be..

    I have theories.
1#.. coil pack connector/connectors again (after giving it some pressure i maybe created some sort of force that affected the spark plugs ?

    #2.. i have somehow fried a valve/cylinder

#3.. i blew the gasket out on my down pipes :S (that one is my funny to myself :p)

#4.. not that i know how it would happen.. but maybe i got wet connectors or water into my air intake somehow :S
    but seriously.. any ideas ?

ok.. so..ur suggesting that my ptu is dead..how do i know if its dead ???

and..any way to check if my connectors (injector/coilpack) are working correctly?

do you have a s1 ptu they have a 100% failure rate.. when they fail your car will drop cylinders !!

only way 2 test it is against a known good one... or buy a s2.. there cheap and actually make the car run better!

hmm..well yes it is a series 1..has been working fine...maybe ill look into a S2..then id have to get it wired up..but i dont get how it'd go from working fine to shit just like that..

Welcome to my world. Car runs great 10sec later car runs shit, days later I'm getting shitty with it. I have a series 1 as well, how hard are they to change?

where do you get this shit from simmo ????????
they do not have a 100% failure rate,or everyone here would have a s2 wouldnt they, and they dont (most of us,including me,change them as preventative maintenance)

well all i know is im fairly shitted off :( bad timing right now for something like this to happen :( grr... LOL..

but yes.. i am hoping it is just a simple connector issue (ie loose coil pack connector)..

im going to check properly in the morning (hopefully when its not raining)..

otherwise i think im up shit creek :(

My guess is a coil pack connector has come loose. Push them all down firmly and see if it helps the problem.
    Caz.. :)

Mate, you just said that it did that 'brom brom' thing right after you changed your spark plugs, meaning one cylinder wasn't firing. You wiggled the plug and it went back to normal. Then you said you booted it in 1st... it probably just wiggled itself out again lol.

Yea wtf man? lol. I have a S1 and never had a problem with it. Even on ridiculously hot days. Also had mates who changed their PTU recently and noticed no difference other than it was actually working again lol.

Only time you'll see me changing a PTU is the day it dies, until then, meh. Its doing its job.

Unless someone actually dynos a 300 before and after a switch from a WORKING* S1 to S2, I refuse to believe they give you power.

yes indeed they all go broom.. however.. the speed of the brooms is different...
EG.. a ferrari has say 12 brooms / second..
    .....a v8 holden has 9 brooms / second
...... our ZX has about 8 brooms a second...

mine now has 4 brooms / second :(

    coil pack conectors

were any of the clips on the coil pack conectors broken, mine were and the easy fix is a small cable tie just to hold the plug in place.
Also make sure all the plugs are clean and free of that annoying green corrosion, can of contact cleaner fixes this.

CAS, PTU, COIL PACK CONNECTORS, INJECTOR CONNECTORS, TPS.

Fiddle with those connectors / wires and see if you don't find a problem lol.

    Cheers

well ok.. here goes.. today.. qik300 came and gave me a hand again. i contacted OZ300 to ask his advice also.. and i tinkered with things myself.

    I found that
#1 ... a coil pack connector was loose (fixed that).. car's engine sounded alot smoother

#2.. i opened up a hole in my exhaust (not sure on size getting it fixed on monday)

#3 i had water in air intake so cleaned/dried all that out..
However.. in checking things and playing around.. My injector connectors look rather dirty (didnt unclip them today) but.. i believe they are fairly corroded so i will need to clean them as well..

So the only issue i have now .. is the holy eXhaust making a bad noise, and making the car perform oddly due to no backpressure (almost stalled 5 times today)

(drivers side piping near the H pipe/gasket is where the hole seems to be at)

yeah dude has 2 be back pressure, at low revs and cruising around not much acceleration, and it almost seems fine, u dont have spark plugs missfiring as the cat temp light hasnt come on due to unburnt fuel burning there and making them far hotter, remember dual exhaust so thats almost no back pressure for 3 cylenders.... yeah just get some stuff that eats away corrosion, be careful tho, if the connectors are old they will be brittle and could snap easily, then its even more trouble.... sorry mate wont help u do that 1!!!
