Had the perfect storm up Tamborine Mountain today. Tammy, Caitlyn and I were up having lunch with K-Zed, Peter and Jen (Mr and Mrs Wykked). A storm was brewing, and we decided it was pointless to outrun it, so we took the best shelter we could find. For our pleasure, we had golf ball sized hail for about 10 minutes I can't see any damage on mine , but hard to see in the low light and foliage + water on the car. Here are some pics of the storm's approach, hopefully peter can provide some of his footage and some of the aftermath
Sounded nasty down here on the gold coast but didnt see any hail but i stole the garage while the others were out just to be sure. Hope your cars ok, I didnt see the storm coming earlier today I was driving around getting sunburnt with the targa's off beside some random black Z also doing the same.
Ran down the Oxenford road in near zero visibility, road covered in debris, dodging fallen trees, one across both lanes, and gave our guests a tour of the northern end of Gold Coast. Saw one Commie with rear screen demolished by hail, fist size holes punched thru, and 2 Mercs in very exxy rear ender! Two small dents in my bonnet
Yes that link works. Awesome cloud shots. I hope Mountain folk didn't cop too much damage. Luckily the Spacia Van was spared hail damage.
I got caught on Mt Nebo - luckily not in the Z, took us 4.5 hours to get from Esk to home (bayside) No hail, but downed trees all the way! We were driving only able to see 1m in front of the 4wd, horizontal torrential rain, until we came to fallen trees. Spent about 3 hours clearing trees from the road until we made it to people coming from the other side.... Pity the camera battery was flat Some pretty extreme winds - roofing wrapped round power lines and hanging from the top of power poles just after you leave the Mt Nebo Forest park! Glad we were further up the mountain at the time, got away with only 2 doorbang size dings in the front gaurd
I would find people to strap to my car to protect it. thats so bad, i would freack the whole way home, drive hell fast and prolly crash.
I was at tambo yesterday as well. But I was on my way down the mountain by the time it started brewing.
poop, found one small dent on the car from the storm, the good news, it's right in the centre of the metal panel that separates the targas and the rear hatch, "Exactly" where I am going to put the aerial for the UHF, so damage will be removed by the installation lucky:bow2:
Thanks to Greg and family for coming up for lunch and meeting us, a big thanks to Rob for chaufering us around that day. The storm was definately an experience I won't forget in a hurry, sorry that you guys got some dents in your cars, that was the only downer of the afternoon, well except for the damage the storm caused further up. Here are some pictures that we took of the storm and some video footage on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xk6fIbvG6hE
