If its the PTU it may work fine when its cold again but experience problems when its warm.

Listen to injectors with screwdriver while cranking.

    Smell for fuel from exhaust

Jiggle PTU connector, then check for spark by removing a coilpack and plug

Not always... Mine died and wouldn't start regardless of temp.

    I reckon PTU.

    check the engine belt!!!

That has no effect on the engine actually working...

Mine still starts with no alternator, air con, PS, water pump, AFM, CTS and other stuff.

...however it does need the timing belt.

btw my bet is on PTU also wldttz

Wouldn't crank with a snapped timing belt.

broken timing belt wont stop engine from cranking unless the pistons have hit valves.

pull the cam cover off and crank the engine to see if the cams turn. if they dont then your timing belt is snapped.

If it's a broken belt the pistons WILL hit valves, interferance head design.

fortunately you are not 100% correct. Pistons MAY hit the valves.

I know this because when I bought my Z it had a snapped timing belt and pistons had not made contact with the valves. the engine freely turned over by hand. I was very lucky. It all depends upon the position of the cams / crank when the belt snaps
