These guys pulled my gearbox out to put a new main seal in it or something. Then they turn around and say my flywheel is buggered. I was ok with this until they ordered two flywheel from Brisbane and none of them worked for some reason...i don't think this guy knows how to use the internet. anyways, im looking for a 305 flywheel with 8 holes or something...but apparently every flywheel they send is 315 and different holes. i don't get why. So he has decided to cut apart two flywheels and get them machined together to make one super not awsomely strong flywheel -_-. ERRR :(.

So question is, how would i get a flywheel for a 1989 Z32 300zx? i check on the internet. and found a couple. but i need one either today or tomorrow morning.

    http://www.tweakit.net/shop/product_info.php?cPath=57_244_250&products_id=1635

That website sounds pretty good, and hes calling my machenic at the moment, telling him how fast he can get one there. And to see why my car has some sort of retard measurement. Could that be because its the first of the z32?

Im pretty sure im getting ripped a new one from this mechanic....ill never see this mother man again!

Ty for your help :) sorry about the rant...but i just need some advise or comfort. Im sorry if this is in the wrong section...

    Thanks, john

Never ever tell a std mechanic it is a 1989.
Always tell them your car is a 1990.

I had the same problem when I tried to buy front rotors.
As soon as I saw them I knew they were wrong :)

    They supplied Z31 rotors :)

You wont believe this. Apparently my car has a new gearbox. I was pretty happy with this. until they found out it isn't the 4 speed gearbox off a auto z32. We don't even know what it is, ill have a closer look and try to find out. But still, apparently the starter motor, and automatic flywheel have been replaced to suit the new auto gearbox........... :| so this means.....that nothing will fit it -_- im not sure what to do :S. They have to literally machine a new flywheel -_- im so angry. Can any good come from this? Am i better off putting a z32 auto box in there? and just get all original stuff? starter motor, flywheel, and stuff like that?

The drive shaft looks original so that's a bonus..Ill get some photos up tomorrow of gearbox, flywheel, and drive shaft. :( this is my worst break ever.

Well that's one option, but i just don't see the need... What would it achieve but money and trouble...i have enough to just get a manual z-car... but i honestly don't see the point in a manual.. this car isn't on a race track, its on the public road, and goes just as fast as a n/a manual. I got a landcruser, so i get my fair share of manual cars out in the boosh.

But thanks for the idea. It is tempting, allot more fun with a manual lol, but i just know ill get caught. :(

I think your right, i heard him (mechanic) say flexplate somewhere. Ill go this afternoon and check out the gearbox.

PS: Bips discount auto repairs in kirwan, probably isn't the best place to get your 300zx roadworthy -_- never again, and not like this.

The problem is you are looking at flywheels, which are for manual transmissions

Just called my mechanic. He took something off, turn it around and moved something so the 'flexplate' could fit on. I asked him if this could upset timing, balance, or crank. He said only on a manual transmission 'flywheel' not on a 'flexplate'. I'm not sure exactly what he did, but he said it worked. and there putting the gearbox back in right now.

I'm happy and scared sh**less at the same time. I hope it doesn't f**k up later down the track :(.

Could this be potential harmful? what ever it is that he did? even if you have an idea on what he did. Please express yourself.

    Thanks :D!

I suspect what he originally found was a damaged ring gear (starter) and didnt want to re-assemble it incase id shat itself in quick time resuting in a comeback.

    He did the right thing!

What I suspect hes done now is to grind off the welds fixing the ring gear to the flex plate.
Turned the ring gear around and then re-welded it.

Its OK M8, itll run for the next 20 years happily. Id rather have replaced the entire flex plate but...hey!

Just relax and forget about it.
