It's because they don't advertise, I found them by word of mouth. Called em about my latest excessive speeding fine and they asked what, where, why, etc...told them the truth, I have a good record otherwise, and they said all good, no change to your premium, thanks for letting us know.

    I LIKE lumneys...very much.

Yeah, taking some nice photos/going in personally with a clean car goes a long way, I did both and have my car with Shannons for $20,000 as well...was told by the guy when I first asked that I would struggle, they saw the car and then the photos and next thing I know i got a letter in the mail with the value i wanted AND a drop in my yearly premium (BONUS!) :zlove:

    Insurance Truths for everyone

OK there are a few on this forum that know where i work and a lot that dont, yes i am an insurance underwritter, asses the risk value the risk work out the premium for those that dont understand.
, A renewal is basically an invatation to take the insurance again, insurance policys are in reallity a contract and therefore must be renewed each year. The amount of times i get people who just dont read a renewal and just pay it and dont update details is amazing.
It is up to YOU "the insured" to do a few things such as read the product disclosure statement ( thats the bit that tells you what is and isnt covered) also to make sure all your details are true and correct, speeding fines claims history etc etc.
MOST of all if you change or modify your cars your insurance companies arent mind readers and if you dont tell them youve spent money on your pride and joy we just simply dont know, make a phone call.
Guys in short there are a few things you all need to read, firstly read your agreed value clause with your current insurer, ask the question , is this a true agreed value, there are some out there that state, agreed value or market value whichever is the LESSER at time of claim, there is also another i have seen that states we agree to insure your car for UP TO x amount of dollars.

And lastly guys i dont get on here as much as i used to but if anyone has any general questions about insurance, message me if you dont want to discuss them in an open forum and ill be happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

    cheers

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Thank you, Psycho! Great info there.

I just got a quote from ComInsure (Commonwealth Bank) for 3rd party property, fire and theft for $248 pa. ($20+ per month) with an excess of $500 (like, I'm gonna make a claim for a $150 head unit and a $200 window?). Car is a Aus-spec NA, driver over 50yo, no prior claims. If the car is stolen and/or burned it's covered for $5,000 (not too far short of the market value) and if I do something totally stupid like ram someones 'Roller' they are covered for up to $20,000,000. In that event my own car is NOT covered, but in the overall scheme of things, the replacement cost is relatively small bikkies.

While comprehensive insurance is the ideal, we have to take into account the fact that what we spend on our cars often does not increase its market value (sad). Comp premiums currently charged would have us pay the value of the car in very few years. I am happy to accept the risk of the lesser insurance, and pocket the difference. Over the same number of years, I will have accumulated the replacement value of the car.

I appreciate that the perception of adequate insurance is a very personal thing. This is just my approach to it.
