Importance of the shroud?

If it's anything like the VG30ET, anything over half way is too hot. I know immediately something isn't right even if I see my temp needle move the tiniest bit over half way. I realize you guys have shitty temp gauges though, but that still looks a little warm to me.

I was about to say the same thing. That temp gauge is NOT linear, just under halfway is normal temps. Slightly over half and it's getting hot.

Why does your speedo only go to 180?

That's what I figured, the Z32 temp gauge isn't no where near as bad as people make out then if that holds true, unless of course it's giving faulty readings all together in which case it could be the sender and not the gauge.

I would say that last pic is getting a little high... defiantly higher than mine normally sits.

EDIT: LOL forgot to refresh page, didn't realize there were about 5 posts before me saying what i just said.

So what happens when you go over 180?

They dont, until you rid of the limiter of course.

Do the Aus-specs have them? is the 260kmph speedo just for show?:(:( oh well looks good :)

No, aus specs don't have the 180KPH limiter. A lot of people upgrade to the aus spec cluster or the 300KPH speedo.

I've rid myself of the limiter but can't see the point in changing the speedo. It will read accurately up 190, after that it's guess work but you must be pretty keen if 190 isn't enough for u.

Must be all that heat you guys get over there  I havn't used any shroud for 9 years and running 78-81 degrees each day. Quite a few other English bods do the same too.
Mines 414rwhp running stock fan set up, Howe rad, slam panel and vented nose panel and that's it for cooling ;)
Don't see any modern cars these days running a viscous fan and shroud set up, just an electric fan that comes on when needed.

That's barely the top of 4th mate, a whole other gear to go yet! lol

    High RPM drifting

After doing a few consecutive laps of Acherfield my stock temp gauge which usually sits halve way between C and H went up to aournd the 3/4 mark and beyond. Had to keep letting the car sit for 15min or so to let it cool down.
Would this be due to the extreme load its undergoing on the track or insufficeint cooling??
As some of you know Archerfield is a tight track so lots of wheel spin but not alot of speed or air flow..

get a proper temp gauge man. your z is overheating. you dont have a UDP on do you . without the overdrive pulley? especially now you have a fmic it will be blocking alot of the air flow 2 the radiator

So this is how Z32's get a bad wrap for overheating, people own Z's with obvious overheating problems and take them to the race track! LOL

    safe temp just under half

When I bought my zed for the first 1.5 years the gauge never moved over halfway. I figured this was fine. Then I had the 100k service and all plennum hoses replaced including radiator water pump and thermostat. Sice this work the gauge has always sat about 5mm below half and has never gone higher. So with a brand new cooling system working at 100% or as efficient as it can I think the temp needle should be just below half.

I'm convinced now that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Z32 temp gauge and sender, people just dont monitor it properly as they should. That's exactly the same as the VG30ET regarding the position of the temp needle, it's just foolish to push the car knowing it's running too hot.

In my experience the standard temp guage does fulfill its purpose but certainly could be better.

everyone just has to remember that it was designed only to alarm the driver only when temps got out of control. Think of it as more of an alarm device rather than an acurate gauge. Many new cars don't even have a temp gauge but merely have a temp warning light (this is the same principle).

I have not bothered with an aftermarket temp gauge. I have found an easy way to tell whether the temp is under 90degrees is whether the thermofan is running with the aircon at idle. If it isnt running then temps are under 90 and not a problem. if something goes wrong while im driving the temp gauge will alert me.

however if you're pushing your car alot or race then you would want an accurate aftermarket gauge all the time.

well i dont push my car alot and i dont take it to race tracks, im pretty happy with how my rads holding up so far :)

If you're overheating that much during regular driving, you definately have a problem. As others have said, that side of the half way mark is too hot.
