    First Notice:

I first noticed a ZX at my 18th birthday. My dads best mate pulled up, and scraped it on the middle of the road due to it being so low. It looked unreal, and I was gobsmacked I thought to myself "Thats what I want"

    Second Notice:

I brought a Z31, and thought that was heaven, was good as to her, and kept her in good nick, went to my Dad's mate, and he took the Z31 for a spin and laughed at it, and I thought that was good at the time.

    First Wanted One:

That night, he handed me the keys to his Z32, and said have a drive, so he came with me, and I got down the end of the road, and turned around, and he said "give it hell" so I did, and that was the time I wanted one over any other car, I think I said "F#@K" so many times that run. TT really felt nice.

    First Got One:

:) I brought that very ZX off my Dad's best mate, fell in love with it that night, and wanted it. I got it. GOTBLZ came as the plate with it.

This thread has taken off better than i thought.

I was really after first memories of noticing the Z, but meh... this is cool.

Lets go for first drives too.

First time IN a Zed (as passenger)
So a mate of mine who'd showed me the import Zeds on line arranges for his other mate (midnite from this forum) to pop round to mine to show me a Zed i the flesh.

Midnite turns up with my mate, and being the good chap he is he says "you guys take it round the block. I'll wait here"

So my mate jumps in as driver and im passenger (i didn't want to drive. I was too scared too)

We get round the corner, and over a round about, and then my mate gives it some. Sunny day. Dry road. Warm ambient temp but the back end kicks out like she's on ice and im pinned to the back of my seat.

Let me explain further.. this mate I knew only through CHURCH. He'd never heard me swear.... he did THAT day ;)

I recall the words "SHIT" and a mumbled "FK" and "YOU DONT NEED TO PROVE ANYTHING" and i was close to getting out... if i could.

He's a bit mad that mate, and being in a residential area as well, I wasn't too impressed with him.

But the car...... the car blew me away

    First drive in a Zed
So I start looking to buy. First one is a near factory condition dark blue 2 seater manual TT. Middle aged bloke is the owner. The car looks mint. I remember saying "i was looking for something to modify but if i buy this, id want to keep it as is". (I so should have snapped that car up but meh... the past is the past)

So anyway, we go for a drive, and its like im in a fighter jet. The car hugs me. It goes where i want it to go. It feels so fast. It was like "pick a speed and i'll do it instantly" was what the car seemed to be saying.

I thought i was giving it some.

The owner looks at me with a puzled look and says "you know the turbos dont kick in till 3k rpm right?"

lol, i hadn't even hit boost and i was still in heaven. And i never did in that car. Again... too scared.

first time I gave it sum
Still shopping, and looking at a dark green modifed 2+2. didn't buy as it had issues but thats another story and again, in the past

But i remember the test drive.

Had gone round the block a bit, and as we pulled onto a duel carridge way the owner (a young bloke) said "go on, give it some, I dont mind at all"

I looked in my rear view mirror. A commodare with a load of bogans had decided to tailgate the Zed.

Being a Falcon owner at the time, Commodores were my arch enemies lol

    I floored it.

the Zed LURCHED forwards, and I glanced in the rear view to see a commodore getting very very small as we pulled away leaving it struggling to even look like keeping up

"now THATS what its all about" i think were the words that slipped from my mouth.

    1st Zed Memory...

Well, I think it was late 90's and I had entered my Purvis Eureka kit car in a local car show.

Guess what I parked next to when I arrived to set up - Yep, a nice black 5 speed, Targa twin turbo. I was sorta looking at buying a Porsche 944 turbo, but they were so hard to come by at a decent price and when I saw the 300ZX in the flesh I was Hooked!:)

Later, when the show finished he sped off down the road and I swear I had never seen a car go so fast down that particular road with such acceleration - it was awsuuuum:bow2:. Well, compared with the Eureka;)

From that day on (they were about the $25000 mark at the time) I looked and looked and finally was able to afford one many years later.

    Here I am:zlove:

saw one when i was about 11, heading to a soccer competition in bunbury, gunmetal grey Z with cannons and rims pulled alongside in an overtaking section then booted away

never new what they were but wanted one.. over the years was always keen on imports and went to look at a tt soarer (was checking every sort of import out) and saw my current car and talked the owner into selling the zx and not the soarer

first memory was finding a massive roundabout after driving for half an hour and continually doing slides around it (before hooning=death sentence laws)

one of the good nights of Z memories ;)

    Not my first memory...

...but one from the 1993 Melb motor show. Pic of me & a mate (former member DSCM) who both went on to get red aus-specs!

I'm so glad you posted that pic, Col. I was looking at mine the other day and thinking to myself: "It looks like a 4WD with all that clearance at the front." But, obviously, that's the way they were!

First memory? I was aware of the 240Z and 260Z, but never considered that I could ever own something as nice. First car I ever REALLY wanted was a Prince GT (which went on to become the Nissan GTR) but it was WAY outside my buying capacity.

Then one day in the early '80's (late '70's?) one of the doctors at work turned up in a 280ZX, and I thought "WTF, that's sooo ugly!"

Then the 300zx came out, and it looked nice... the longer nose seemed to balance out the roof line... but all the reviews (of Aussie delivered ones) said it was overweight and underpowered (non-turbo). So I dismissed it from mind.

Roll forward 20 years! Baroo wanted to buy his first car and was in love with a black (yes BB) '85 300ZX (again, non-turbo). After a few drives (targa's off), I thought "This is fun!"

Then Baroo wanted to get a TT Z32. We went for a test drive and my reaction after driving it was WOW! Shortly after, I came into some spare money and said to myself "Self, gotta get me one of these!" And along came DREDZ! :zlove::zlove:

First time I ever drove a Zed was a mates one. He dropped it over my place while my dad worked on it for him. One day had to take it to a paint place to match the color for a can to retouch some areas with. My dad drove it to the place and on the way back, hands me the keys. Tells me to drive it but sensibly (duh, its not even my car why the hell would I be stupid?) anyway!... the moment I sat in the drivers seat I was just breath taken. It just felt SO right.

Drove it home, its about a 10 minute drive. We're about 2 streets away from home and my dad tells me to give it a little. I argued with him a bit since I was still afraid of it (being a TT and I was still new to manual yet alone a Turbo car) but eventually I gave in. Gave it a little in 1st then 2nd and OH MY GOD when those turbos kicked in for the first time... NO drug in the world could have matched that feeling. I was babbling on about it like a love struck fool for weeks. It was bad enough I was already in love with these cars... I couldnt get that feeling out of my head!... till I finally bought my own and I still cant get the feeling out of my head! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Back in 1991, a wealthy business man who owned a successful night club in Cairns bought a new Z32 from the dealer ship and had fitted a set of 18" wheels (which were considered massive in those days) for $8000:eek:

That was an awesome view of such a rare care with massive wheels!
