    Hi Guys & Gals,

The final race for the season is being held at Oran Park on September 20 - 21 (the Sunday being race day). So make sure you come along to see what we have done to our DriftZ now !!!

We already had a Gen 3 with a baby cam, but we were still lacking as the big budget teams were spending up and raising the bar at each event. The Top Toyo sponsored Teams are now destroying "Semi Slick Racing Tyres" on the rear  Remember, 4 half laps and they are destroyed

Our DriftZ was putting out around 260rwkw (350rwhp) and the lighter cars were making 200 - 350rwkw, which put us at a power to weight ratio disadvantage.

We put the fat girl on a diet and got her down to 1277kg without the driver, which isn't too bad, but some of the other cars weigh 900kg.

So, have a look what we have done now:

Did I mention "Chalk & Cheese" in the dyno sheet !!!
Look at the difference in power and torque - remember, it is in 5th Gear with the turbo and 4th gear without. On Sam's dyno it had 983ft lbs of torque in 4th gear, but it wasn't strapped down and without people in the back it was fishtailing on the dyno - lucky we had it tied to the floor.

That's right, just over 500hp at the treads in 5th gear, 260kg of fat people standing in the boot to keep it on the rollers, tyres shredding and that's all we could graph. In 4th gear, it was just a smoke show :D

Unfortunately we have lost 2 gears in our gearbox :bash: Oh, they still work, but above idle the tyres just shred so we will probably have to take off in 3rd gear now

The Suspension setup will now have to be worked on so we can get some traction. The next round should see us create a bush fire of smoke around the track.

You should hear it on the dyno!!! That awesome V8 sound, BOV's popping at gear changes, external wastegate and screamer pipe dumping excees boost and flames, and when it is on the track, combined with the sound of tyres shredding, and smoke billowing from the poor tyres - it will be great .

Along the way, we found the 38mm wastegate was not big enough to dump pressure, so we have gone for a 50mm one and we have added a 50mm BOV as well, so we can keep the boost pressures down to 6 - 8lbs. There is absolutely no lag, but we are waiting to get it to the track to test the new setup.

Just make sure you keep it a secret !!! :bash:
I'd hate the other competitors to find out

We hope to see you at the track as it is the last event for the season.
Hopefully we will make it through to the Top 16 (or beyond) so the interstate guys can see it in action on TV.

    Cheers
    Greg

I take my hat off to you :bow2::bow2::bow2:

What turbo you running? Standard compression on the LS1?

I'm keen to see more piccies of the piping and turbo mounting if you'll share, just bought myself a dirty great turbo :D

Was the 50mm BOV really required? I might have to get another one...

Greg have you been back to sam yet - thse figures were detuned to keep it in one piece. Man its scary when that thing comes on boost:eek::D I like and have offered Dan disposable nappies for the drive:p:cool:

as for traction, i heard it is benificial to fit subframe spacers, which can be bought off ttzed.com

It is the standard engine, with a "Baby" cam and better valve springs, so standard compression.

The guy next door gave me the turbo - it's agricultural - possibly John Deere. So when we finish Drifting, we can plough up the spuds !!! :D

On the stock engine, we only wanted to run 6 - 8lbs of boost.

We had a 38mm wastegate 1/2 bar pressure and the BOV and electronic boost controller set at minimum. The first run at Sam's it spiked at 19lbs in 4th gear and the car was fishtailing on the rollers, as he doesn't strap them down. Lucky we insisted on tying it to the floor to limit the "Off Roller excursions". It also hit 1100ft lbs torque during this run, even though it was frying the tyres on the rollers.

We ended up having to jam a screwdriver in the BOV to keep the boost pressures down to a safe level to get it tuned.

We softened the spring in the Wastegate, and still could not keep the boost pressure down, so we fitted the 50mm wastegate and added a 50mm BOV (2 BOV's) so now we are controlling the boost, instead of it controlling us.

The next problem is suspension setup so we can get some traction, as 1st & 2nd gear just fry the tyres, 3rd is marginal and it takes off in 4th gear at 1200rpm and then spins the tyres freely with the accelerator.

Finally, I have a problem that puts a grin from ear to ear on my face. :D

I just hope it isn't tooooo scary for Dan to drive
I can see our stockpile of tyres disappearing real quick.

    Cheers
    Greg

*drool* ...to have that kind or torque is just awesome. Should smoke the tyres hard!

Reminds of Jash at CRed in WA who earlier this year TT'd a Gen 3 and dropped it into a Laurel. He used it for the Classic Challenge earlier this year. Just before the event it was getting tuned it was maxing out the dynapac hub dyno as it was producing too much torque for the hubs to handle!

Vids of that Laurel in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiEdetRyFG0 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efqbTl5bT0E

We are only running 5 psi Boost :D and that dyno sheet was with 2 fatties standing in the boot to try to stop wheel spin.

It was still wheel spinning in 5th gear, and we had to keep re-tensioning the straps as they kept stretching.

Anyway, here's one in HP - just for bragging rights !!!

I will let you know how it goes on Thursday as we are taking it to Oran Park to see how she skids :D

Thunder, how did you work out what is safe boost pressure when the comp of the LS1 is 10:1? What measures did you take to avoid detonation? Hi octane Race fuel?
