    Hi All!

    Ok, brief background:

Towards the end of November 2007 i was racing my Z at Symmons plains for a club sprint day. It was a warm 27 degree day and as it turned out, battery acid spilt from the battery on the hard cornering etc onto the silicon vac hose for the passenger side turbo wastegate. This ate through the hose, thus causing the wastgate to remain shut, thus causing massive boost spikes. In the heat of the racing i did not notice this as i only had the stock boost gauge and it was running close to max on this gauge already.
So, as a result the rings in piston #6 were destroyed and a hole was melted through the side of the piston! refer to pic. compression on this piston was only about 40 psi!
Thus, it was time for a rebuild!

    Current Status:
Just picked up the machined block and crank from the machining shop yesterday. heads still need to be done (faced and valves re-seated).
i have a set of race forged ACL 20 thou oversize pistons. bearings and DET sensor will be here in about a week. Currently looking for a new clutch setup as the previous exedy heavy duty clutch was slipping. Once i have decided on a clutch i can get the lower end balanced, because the flywheel and clutch etc are needed for balancing.

after getting a clutch my next step is to order all the gaskets and 100 thou rebuild kit parts so that i have everything i need to put it all back together.

So far i have looked at getting these parts form Concept Z performance. Anyone have any suggestions/opinions on this? Of course I'm looking for best bag for buck ;)

Sounds like good progress is being made Odin...

I see you have a new knock sensor harness listed, what about a new knock sensor (would be wise)?

I have bought a full gasket kit from CZP before, all arrived in good time. Shame the AUD isn't as strong against the US dollar anymore.

    Thanks for the input jono,

got the new DET sensor sorted already.

Good to hear CZP were good to deal with. it is a shame bout the exchange rate, but oh well.

I got most of my gear from Coz. Infact your list looks very similar to mine, except I got my 100k kit from Caz.

Good luck with the build, sounds like you've done your homework.

EDIT: Who's doing your machine work?

can definitely vouch for Coz with ordering this stuff. i just got a massive box of parts arrive from the states, 100,000km kit, dumps and tests, sensors - a HEAP of stuff.
he gave me a tracking number, was able to give me recommendations on bits and pieces etc, definitely recommend using them and shipping was bloody quick as well.

    hope all goes well mate!

Keeping the stockies for now, there's nothing wrong with them and the re-build will cost enough without adding new turbos to the equation.

    Hey mate!

I finally get the significance of your profile picture and tag thing. I saw Death Proof on sunday... Awesome movie!! luv'd it!

bit hard to say how long it took, didn't really take note cos i just spent a couple of hours after work in the arvo every now and again doing all the prep work, like taking off all the panelling, radiator, exhaust, drive shaft plenum etc etc. Once all that was done it only took a couple of hours to actually remove it. I'd say that if i had an extra hand whenever needed, it could easily be done in a weekend.

I can't wait for the finished product now either!:zlove:

    balanced underdrive pulley

    Hi All,

i am planning on getting an underdrive pulley with my rebuilt engine, and i will be getting the engine balanced/blueprinted, which will be done along with the pulley. So my question is... will this make the pulley less of a risk to the longevity of the engine if it is properly balanced? i am asking because there has been alot of debate about whether UD pulley reduces engine life due to the lack of a dampner, and i thought if everything is getting balanced then this may be less of an issue??
