Ok, I believe that the gas struts on my rear hatch are starting to die. It is quite embarrasing when the rear hatch falls on your head when you're putting something in the boot, not to mention painful. So, anyone replaced theirs before?? Where can I get some??

    Cheers

    Mine are the same

Best I've found is get a local strut place to make new ones. Take i the old ones and they copy them. Can't find any replacement off the shelf.

There is someone who advertises regassing struts in every issue of the NDSOC magazine.

You can get them regassed depending on the condition of the struts. I sent halfs car to a place at Glenelg before, however, the chrome plating had started to wear which meant that the gas would leak out again. New ones were about $150 from memory.

There is a company at Penrith(Sydney) that regasses or builds new ones to order.

I replaced mine about 18mths ago, with a new pair I purchased on eBay Motors(in the USA) they cost around US$56 a pair and were a direct replacement.:zlove:

i dunno if anyone in vic has had this problem but i couldnt get mine regassed. The strut shop i took them to, tried for an hour to get them regasses and no go:(. They also said their a smaller then normal sized strut so arnt commonly stocked. They had some coming in but it was gonna cost like $120 for the pair. I think so i stuck with what i got for now. Dunno if nissan will still have struts left over.

Whoa, hold your horses... I've replaced mine and bought quite a few other struts for bonnet and boot for an old Supra and some Camrys... company is in Melbourne and called GasStrut Guys. I'll go back and check info, but they are great to deal with, their products are first-class, and they're damn cheap!!
    Will get back with details...

Sorry, can't find my exact contact details for them, but suggest easiest way to contact them is to sign-on to eBay and enter "GasStrutGuys".... they have a permanent eBay Store and you can check out current items, specials, or just contact them for 300ZX rear struts. Mine have worked fine for the past 18-months or so, and cost me around $45. Might be more by now, of course, but you get what you pay for, and I have never had a problem with any of my dealings with them.:)

The struts are playing up caus of the colder weather, the gas is colder and hence doesnt work as well, if this is your only problem, then re-gassing will make them like new again.
If you have found they were in sad condition in the warmer months, then they probably arent worth re-gassing as the seals are stuffed.
I replaced my rear spoiler with a fiberglass one, and prior to removing the old spoiler the struts just managed to hold up the rear hatch, now I have the lighter spoiler on, the hatch flys up!
I also have a Clubsport commodore and with the spoiler on the boot the struts were struggling to hold up the boot, since I had them re-gassed, not a problem, but again this problem only occurred in Winter.

    Hey Mark,
Yeah I bought the struts from off ebay..link found in previous post..I had no problems with them..and I don't have to worry about the boot hitting me in the head anymore :)..shipping was quite expensive..worked out to be approx $70 for the struts to be shipped to my door..

But when I rang a re-gasing place out Epping somewhere..they charged like $30 each to be re-gassed..so I thought I might as well buy new ones..
