If I were you I would get a A1, perfect condition zed for abour 14-16k,

You will also need at least a $2000-$3000 contingency; the better quality the car, the lesser chance you will need to use this, but it DOES need to be there, because as mentioned the best quality zed will still have the occasional dilema that needs lots of :zlove: = $$$.

The other factors you need to consider:

    Stamp Duty (@3% of $15k) <$450

    Rego? ~$700 a year

First Years Insurance = $2000? (Just Car Insurance want this upfront)

General Maintenance and Upkeep $500-$3000 / year

Fuel ~ + 10c extra a litre for premium unleaded

towing fees (if you buy a lemon) ~ $200-300?:p

just remember, there is no point owning it if you cannot drive it because you cannot afford to, if you need to wait a year to save the money, it will save you alot in interest, and at the same time you can earn interest on your money you are saving, also, zeds will be cheaper in the future.

    just my 0.2 cents worth

I've got to agree about the RACQ / NRMA Master

pre-purchace inspection. My car was in great condition and it looked like it had obviously not been abused. So I agreed on a price subject to an RACQ inspection. I paid $200 for the inspection and it got a good report but the car yard still spent about $500 (not including labour) fixing little things picked up by the mechanic. A zed guru would have picked most of these thing up too, but the seller may not have been as willing to fix the things up if not reported by an independant mechanic.

However, if I knew what I know today I would buy a zed off someone on this forum where I knew the car's maintenance/repair history and where someone had already spent the money on 'restoring' the 18 year old zed.

Or else I would probably wait for a good zed with a blown motor so I could pick up a bargain and afford to rebuild the motor (with a few special goodies!).

It took me about 12 months for the right one to come along and I had to travel from Sydney to Soverign Island on the gold coast to buy one, love at first site, followed by a NRMA inspection and a good thums up thereafter it was on a back of a trailer onto sydney. Ever since never looked back. Only draw back is the addiction to spend money on mods and cosmetics, thereafter it sits mainly in the garage undercover, probably gets realised to the world 3-4 times a year.

    Enjoy the car

nrma dont do inspections anymore....used to be like 200-250......damit,

just get a garage to check it out for ya, they probably do a better job in finding stuff than the nrma man who keeps his hands clean all the time..

When i bought mine i got state roads to do an inspection, they were pretty good, i think it was around $200 from memory, they picked up a few things a didnt catch as well which was a plus. www.stateroads.com.au

    Are my ears burning?

There is a lot of good advice in this thread and throughout this forum. My car will pass all tests that you care to subject it to. Definitely a good idea to drive around in as many as you can... will only serve to reinforce how good my particular car is. As you know my price falls within the range you are talking about... and as the car is at the moment there is nothing to spend.. aside from the outrageous price of fuel.

If you have done some research and are serious about committing to a purchase I'm sure we could arrange to have the vehicle brought up closer north to arrange a personal inspection... I would never suggest buying a car sight unseen and mine needs to be seen/driven to be appreciated.

    Cheers, Adam. :zlove:

    chin up dude.

I almost purchased my 1st Zed 3 years ago. Like you decided i couldn't afford it (i could afford the car, but would have ZERO budget for fixing and maintaining... = BAD idea)

So i got my 180sx and was very happy with that for 2 years.

now... i have the Zed. Its not a perfect example of a zed, but you know, I still find more and more reasons to love it every time I sit behind the wheel.

    You'll get yours one day.
