Were these not an option for 1997 onwards?
(I've seen them in two '97 models here)
The center console panel is also done in the same fake CF effect.

    Probably, according this my model developemtn site, the new switches were avalibale from 97 - 00. Im guessing they were any optional part for the 97/98 models but made standard on the 2k model. The carbon fiber centre panel;

Joji from wheelchoice is actually in California. He just arranges things through his agents in Japan. Z32-zone are notoriously difficult to get in contact with.

ah kool funkysi. i rememeber some time last year there was a guy on the us froums who lived in japan and he said he could get parts from their shop. Must have thought that was the guy you got it from.

No worries Lloyd. I have emailed Z-32 but no resonse as yet. Cairns has a great deal of contact with Japan through tourism and I have some friends in the industry who travel over there a couple of times a year so you never know!!!

they are either reshells or the owner owned them in japan for atleast 12 months before importing them as personal imports... no other way to have them registered here

thats interesting, i remember a thread a little while back when dj_party was talking about importing a 2000 spec and i'm pretty sure it was chili or someone posted a link to a website explaining why they couldn't due to not having a second airbag or something

    oh well there ya go

Yeh i remember that damn thread. Posted it last year when i got my seatsbelts moved to my B pillars. It would have never worked anyways, the importer was very unreliable and unless you contacted him every day he would forget you the moment you finished talking to him on the phone. As far as i know about importing a 2k model, if you have lived in Japan for a year and have owned the car for the same amount of time then yes you can ship it over here, but what would be the point. It would cost you an arm and a leg to have it shipped here and after one year in japan why would you come back to aus if your settled in japan. Does the 10 year rule apply after 2010?? The twin airbag is what really kills importing a 2k model z nowdays.

Okay I'm no expert on importing but this is my understanding from what i've been reading about the new R35 GTR import process.
The list ZDUCTIV posted is the SEVS list. For a used car to get on the SEVS list it has to meet 2 out these 4 criteria:
    - appearance
    - unusual design feature
    - power to weight
    - featured in specialist motor mags

Also you can only import cars with build dates 1yr after the last build date sold by Nissan in AUS.

So all of the 2 seaters and the later 4 seater zeds are fine to meet the SEVS list. But this does not mean that you can just bring them in.

A workshop has to apply to get the compliance plate for the zed. so this means bringing in demo cars and test vehicles to get complied. This is where the later model Zeds get ruled out.

If you read the text in the link Steve posted, it says:

So as the Zed doesn't have 2 airbags no workshop can get the compliance plate for it unless they can make sure it meets all the ADR rules. And seeing as there is a very small market for the later model zeds (lets face it, zed's just aren't that popular any more) it's not really worth it for any workshop to undertake the process of making the 2k spec zed ADR approved.

I think personal import is the only way to go as you don't have to get it complianced. Just has to meet these requirements:

Personally imported vehicles must be roadworthy and comply with the

Or maybe race/rally but then you can't drive it on the roads and i can't imagine someone wanting to race a 2k spec zed... cheaper to just get a 90.

15yr rule was phased out in 2005 I think. I believe that they phased it out in 2005 because everyone would have just started bringing in all the popular japs cars of the '90's. Just look at how many '89 and '90 import zeds there are as well as skylines and s13's etc. It's now the "pre 1989" rule or something like that.
