Need serious help here PLEASE.... was driving my partners pride and joy an automaatic 89/90 ZX when it seemed to make a really rough gear change going up steep hill. A few minutes later needed to stop and couldnt get reverse gear. Forward gears then sounded ghastly and needed to float Z back home. Any recomendations as to where I can take Z in Syndey/Central Coast area to have someone assess the problem....(is still on car trailer) thanks ....ggtooth's distraught girlfriend
Hey mate, Did u start hearing a metal grinding sound coming from the box. This sounds exactly the same as what has happened to my zed. My torque converter broke off inside the box and i lost reverse. I also had drive in netural. Unfortunately if thats the case then the auto might be blown. But it might not i dunno exactly whats wrong from what u said. have if checked by a auto specialist place or by a trusted zed workshop asap. hopefully its not as bad as mine was.
Reverse is commonly the first gear to go in a flogged out old automatic, followed shortly by the rest of the gears. Go manual conversion, or full automatic rebuild. Either option wont be cheap...
Not a very good welcome to this forum GG.:zlove: This car is not a "daily user", and as such, has had a fairly sedate life. It was running as sweet as a nut, and suddenly developed the symptoms mentioned above. Transmission fluid is clean and clear pinkish in colour. My money is on the Torque Converter packing up, followed by whatever else decided to quit in sympathy.
Thanks Chilli, Only on "L" plates in the internet forum stuff, so am very slow to find my way around the site. By the way what constitutes a Junior membership??? Love to think that I am still in the 'junior' category!!!
"fraid it was Yep, 'fraid it was a grinding mashing sound...bit hard to describe really. Suspect she is very sick...
