    heyy
Yesterday i was sitting in Kbro3's TT Z32, which i have done a bit of work on,
We were just happily cruising, about to jump on to the freeway on our way home, when suddenly then temp gauge started rising a little too fast considering we had been driving for about an hour. it had just past the middle, getting to the ZOMG OH SHIT side of things so we decided to pull over to check what was going on.

So we opened the bonnet. There was so much steam it was fogging up the headlights, Yeah it got pretty hot!

So we decided to wait a minute for it to cool down before trying to limp it to the servo on the other side of the street. meanwhile i had a quick glance underneath to see where the water was dripping from.

Well it wasnt dripping as much as it was pissing out of the front of the engine.
this was like my worst nightmare since i had replaced the timing belt only about 3 weeks ago.

I was pretty sure that i knew what had happened, that one ofthe rubber coolant pipes leading into the heads had either come of or split something like that...

long story short we limped it to the servo called a tow truck ( didn't want to risk it although we were only about 10 minutes from my house where we were going to take it ) got it towed and started pulling stuff off.

GGRRRR i hate those 6mm hex head bolts holding the alloy pipes to the thermostat. I forgot that i put lock tight on the threads... eh oh well so yeh got that shit off and i was right!
In the right one of those 2 pipes there was a hole big enough to stick my finger through.. so right now im waiting so we can borrow a mates car, go get a new pipes and put it back together.. while its apart we figured we might as well put BOOST JETS in lol

Still have now idea why this pipe split?? we weren't even fanging it just taking it easy.. makes no sense we were hurting it alot harder the night before, so technically it should have gone then??

    just age id guess

exactly the same thing happened to me actually. but luckily i was pulling up to a place where i could work on it when she was getting a bit heated. my right pipe and split underneath and i could feel it quite easily with my hands. they arent too bad to replace in terms of pulling out radiator etc but those hexs are a bitch. just make sure you get some heavy duty pipes so it doest happen again...

thats why they are a part of the 100kk service kit.. did you just do the timing belt or put a whole kit through it.. ie were they new or ancient?

    WELL...
the thing about that 100k service is... im guessing it was never done.
he bought the car at about 147 and only 2 months ago. the only reason i replaced the timing belt was because it was so loose that it was flapping and making a horrible noise that we first thought was lifters.. so it has had some pretty dodgy mechanics work on it in the past before it was imported. the belt was deffinetly still the original factory belt and im guessing that these pipes are aswell

The moral of the story is to replace all old rubber hoses.

Especially if you have access to difficult to reach hoses because of other work being done.

I'd be taking those boost jets out if you have other original coolant hoses not yet replaced ie passenger side turbo coolant hose, under-plenum coolant hoses etc. More boost = higher temps = more pressure = boom at point of weakest link  .

    Been there, done that!

If you read through the tech article on replacing the thermostat I make particular mention to the importance of replacing those hoses when working in that area.

well just replaced those 2 hoses, and put most of the front back together, installed the boost jets.
Just having a short break, all thats left is the fan and fan shroud, put coolant back in, bleed the system and pressure test it and fingers cross that all is good!

I can officially say that there is no more coolant on the floor under the Z!! :D

    Boost jets are awsome!!
but i think the ECU may have put the car into safety boost because it was running pretty hard for like 10 minutes and then back to standard boost it seems..
    Ideas?
