what to look for in a 300zx?

As the story goes, NEVER BUY A MAGNA!!!

So having the frustrating task of putting the engine and trans back in my 2000 TJ Mitsubishi Magna, i recommend never to buy one.

So ive decided to sell it and get one of my favorite cars, a 300zx.

Can anyone give me a rundown of what to look for?
stuff like
common rust spots
engine condition

any other things i should know before i go and buy one?

Im looking for a 1990 - 1995 roughly

do a search in the tech section. There's a whole buyers checklist which is pure gold.

Also... just because you had issues with your magna, dont write them all off.

I have mates with magna's going strong.

Any car type can have a lemon

The 300ZX's rep isn't exactly golden either

hahaha working on a magna is a walk in the park compared to working on a zed...have fun, you'll learn to love and hate in a single emotion .

If i

were you, id be looking for one that is as near to stock as possible.

 

not wrong, the fun part of owning a car i guess.
but being a front wheel drive and having the engine on its side. standard falcons and commodores u dont have to remove the engine just to get the trans out,
it had 4 engine and trans mounts, 3 where on the trans, if there were more on the engine i could have left that in, but its all back together now and working fine.

In a perfect world you want a stock 300ZX with one or two previous owners, preferrably old, and a glovebox full of service receipts and other stuff.

 

You think a magna is a pain to work, have you seen a zed engine bay? Do you want a TT or NA?

Had to work on a magna POS before, gearbox, head removal etc. I would rather work on a ZED any day. Front wheel drives are a PITA.

Just tired of FWD cars, i want a RWD (preferably manual)
and ive always liked the look of the 89+ 300's

i own a 2001 tj magna with my brother, only work i ever do to it and even that is a pain in the arse, worse than the zed, i hate it
