I think people have forgot to mention also that different suburb cruises put people off as well. Im up for most types of cruises at least once. Im a very curious zed owner, excited to meet other members young and old. I have loved ever single cruise ive been to, on this wonderful forums and ive had a absolute blast so far.

As for replying to new posts, i only reply to posts that i have experience or knowledge that i can add that will help the individual and not try and make up something.

    come people lets not fight.

WhiteNight youv'e hit the nail on the head..

There are other forums, but in Aus this is the most about Z's, the most tech about Z's + it's easy to use..

Either young or old everyone is involved..

This forum does make owning a Z soooo much easier..

i can see where your coming from bigmax, there is a lot of useless posting on this forum - when i joined not that long ago, the forum was quite different with more succinct and on topic posting.

as the car depreciates, younger people will join the forum - times are changing.
going to the last cruise - i only knew a few people there, but the guys who i do know i think are a top bunch of blokes.

on a forum based on a car of our nature, you'll get some prized idiots who will drive their cars illegally and perform at cruises in a way the forum does not applaud to. i guess its all about finding some people you get on with and organising stuff with them.

    I'm 48 this year........

In our car club there is one other member that is similar in age, bar for him I'm old enough to have fathered all the other members...... hell I'm even the Godfather to one member !

    One thing I've learnt......

Age isnt the barrier, attitude is.

    Enter postwhore 1: ;)

hehe I for one will be posting LESS this year (well at least try to) as I know sometimes I get hooked on a topic or conversation and start talking crap, so sorry if im one of the offenders.

But for me, the forum (and the club) is 3 things

    1) A resource for knowing about and looking after the cars
    2) A place to buy parts
    3) A place to GET TO KNOW PEOPLE

For me, 3 in a way out weighs the top 2. And its by entering into banter that you get to know people.

Yes there are cruises 2, but most of the club life is on these pages, so yeah..... for me, the "talking crap" is how i relate.

I'll try and keep it in "non zed related" though... i know i have strayed in the past ;) :zlove:

  6. red32

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Ghost writer wanted - apply within...

I died? When? Why wasn't I told? (Do I smell bad?)
I think what you are referring to, Max, is that the "older" members have moved on a bit in life and have different priorities from the younger members. They (we/I) have been there, done that (I even bought several T-shirts), including asking the "nooby" questions (dammit, we invented the nooby question), doing the "hoon" thing, making smart-arse replies and pointless posts just for the hell of it, and so on.
However, one thing which hasn't changed and in fact has probably gotten stronger, is our love for the Zed. It's so rejuvenating... I realise now that what I am doing by modifying my Zed is reliving my youth... I'm doing to the Zed almost exactly what I did to my first car over 40 years ago. Having put in the effort (or money) to improve the car, I sometimes can't help but show off to other members how much it now differs from the original. I DO drive "enthusiastically" but I pick my moments... having learned my lessons as a youth.
Aus300ZX is primarily an internet forum and "whoring" is merely the same exchange of banter and badinage that would occur in any face-to-face club meeting. Take it in that context and it can be quite amusing, while at the same time, be bloody annoying! Take, for example, my post count (nearly 3000, (and remember, Non-Zed posts don't count)). Probably less than 5% of these would have any technical merit, but from my posts, I get a laugh, my friends get a laugh and all is well with the world for a short while. I faced it years ago . . . I'm a Whore!
And quite right, too! Their function as administrators and moderators is to make sure that us ordinary mortals don't overstep the bounds of internet decency. However, their function as association members is exactly the same as yours and mine... if you want to do something, organise it and advertise it so others can join in if they want to.
Take any group of more than two people and you will find that a clique will form. Thats life! Deal with it! Form your own clique and enjoy!
The emphasis of this association is that the members do what THEY want... it's up to them to organise events and enjoy them without the constraints of the officialdom imposed by a formal club structure. To put it another way, as a member I "officially" represent the forum. Whatever I organise becomes an "official" forum event, sanctioned by the Association!
The Zed32 is now 19 years old! It's gonna die! NOT!
Take a look at how healthy the older (240, 260, 280, Z31) versions of the marques' clubs/associations are. These cars are classics which will keep on appealing to enthusiasts of all ages.
I think not! Bigmax has a point of view which he is quite entitled to (and encouraged) put across whatever others may think . . . it's called Democracy). Things are not as bad as you seem to think. The Zed community is alive and well, and kicking butt and taking names.
I think this is the BEST point you make! It's the way it should be. If there were no new blood, then enthusiast groups would die out, in much the same way as you suggest is happening to the RSL!

Sorry to pull your post apart piece-by-piece, but I think you are mistaken in your nay-saying.

PS: I was going to title this post as "For Sale: BigCols soap box", but I decided to borrow it and use it myself.

Not before I take it for a spin Col.:D

Big Max, I can happily say I have been on this wonderful site for as long as most others around here. I even wear the title of administrator, (although some would call me by other names:eek: ) and live in Victoria so I guess that I was one of the members you were primarily targetting in your post. Several older members (Col, Mark, Lloyd, Doug) have already clearly posted most of what I have to say with the exception of a couple of points so here they are.

When we started there were no events unless we organised them, and we had some bloody good ones too. Who in Vic will ever forget lunch at the Merrysville pub followed by a run up to the snow, or how about the first ZedFest in Gilgandra, with over 50 Zed32s in one place, the most many of us have ever seen. We started this place to help Zedders share knowledge and organise cruises, if the same small group of members always organise the outings it can become stale, which is why we encourage everyone to step up and have a go.

Mark (Jedi) and I used to split the techdays between ourselves because he lived in the west and I live in the East. Mark's new house isn't techday friendly so he hasn't hosted one and I haven't had one since last summer (anyone remember the 40 degree heat?) but other members have stepped up and held them. I'll probably host another, and then probaly another after that, but I will also give others a chance.

I haven't lost the passion, I'm just not as vocal as I once was, so how about you have some passion Max, and step up to the plate, organise a cruise, and stop expecting others to do it all for you?

agree with peter, whats stopping you from organising cruises?
dont need to be a high post count user to be heard.

Put up your EOI for a cruise in the coming events section, make it attractive to the broad scale of age between our users, and it should be a hit.. rather than complaining.

usually cruises that have long fwy stints, with a few stops, one possibly containing lunch, and scenic routes.. are a hit.

    I'll add my 2 cents...

I must say I haven't seen a group of car enthusiasts polarized so much simply by age like it is here. Young arrogant guys and condescending old folk can still get along if they share a common interest! lol Age shouldn't even really come into it! I dont even know the age of 90% of Z31 guys, it's just not an issue.

Well i'm one of the young guys. I post whore, my spelling can be bad as well as punctuation and i occasionally use txt spk, all of these known to annoy the older members, yet i still go along to most sydney events and get along with most of the older and younger members, in fact there are not many members i have met that i dont like. (Dont know if this is reciprocated but i like to think it is with most)

This forum exists purely because of the members, the mods simply guide it along in the right direction, if you want something, ask, don't complain that no-one has asked you

As for lack of passion, well i know a lot of the older sydney guys dont post but every time i see them lack of passion for zeds is not something i would use to describe them at all.

When I bought my first Zed

I had no idea how complex these vehicles are. I joined this Forum and soon found out, but the Forum made it a lot less painfull than it might have been. I can now open the bonnet and look down with uttering a four letter word. Knowing there are so many good people out there ready to help out a fellow Zedder has given me the confidence to try more and more stuff on my own.

The young are destined to take over the forum, it is the universal truth and we old guys need to move aside. Today's pre pubescent, sexually obsessed moron is probably tomorrow's Zed Master :p .

Anyway, get that semi naked nymph out of the way, she is blocking my view of the Zed.

One thing is certain; if it wasn't for this Forum, I wouldn't have a Zed.

Some of us who have been around for years just like to lurk.
I've had my z for 8 years now. Don't feel a great need to count posts.
My daughter has claimed the tt for her 21st present, so I just watch out for new ideas and the occasional cruise and on the occasional sunny weekend enjoy the boost.

I must admit the forum has changed drastically in the last 3-4 years. I was lurking myself for about 18 months before I even signed up. I really enjoy the Z events, up here ib SEQld most of the participating Zedders are in the older age bracket which I really like, normally I'm the youngest there.

I have another car club which is more into the night time going a bit quicker than you should type of events, so when I go on the Z cruises it is more for the excellent company and wonderful destinations than the actuall driving.

I am really looking forward to Cowra and meeting all the Zedders from around the country, and dare I say it, specially interested in meeting Chili

Not directing this at anyone but i really hate the young vs old shit that goes on round here. why is there 2 sides and i get the impression that the "old" side feel they are superior to the "young" side

In addition i dont like being generalised as one of the fully sik crew just because i dont have a few grey hairs. I dont hang out at macca's , i dont have 50 cent blasting out of a 15 inch sub either.

Lets lose the arrogance and segregation hey fellas?

    Forum Ideas/Opinion

    Hi there,

Some interesting thoughts you have brought up - that's the spice of life isn't it?

Any way I can see how possibly some of your ideas come from...

Me personally, I joined long before I owned a Zed and actually got 'ribbed' for being a member and not owning a Zed:mad: . I thought this was rather poor form but moved on and past this - as members come from all avenues of life right?

I always wanted a Zed from early on but didn't know a lot about them and due to my distance from any major city it made it really difficult to associate myself with any enthusiasts at all. Now, this is where the forum for me came into it's own big time. As there was no 300ZX's in town at all and I had been told after asking many questions in relation to 300's many bad stories and people tried to divert me from making the purchase. But I knew not all of the horror stories could be true. So I discovered the forum and just read and read and read - didn't post much initially as I had no car to experiment on but learnt a hell of a lot from others experiences and the technical section which is just the best  .

I wish I was able to go on just one cruise with any of you and to me age is no issue - who cares, it's the love of the Zed that binds us together!:zlove:

I would also love to host a tech day (by the way you are all welcome - I've a spare bedroom you know:D ) but sadly again distance is against me...

One positive is that I'm sure with people here seeing me drive my Zed around and just loving it to no end (yes, yes, I drive with a big smart ass grin) it has inspired others to make the big puchase too as now I've seen other Zed's in town. So, when the drag strip is finished in March hopefully all the car people will be there and some other Jap imports and we can get together. So you will probably see an ad in the local paper for just that.

Yes I agree there is probably a bit much of 'stupid' posts and I too just skim over them and let it go. I choose to answer ones I have first hand experience in and where I know what I'm talking about - I belive that also helps others as I wish to give back some of what I've received. As there are many here who give and help a lot!

    Cheers, Kaz.

I'm very new to this forum

having only bought my first 300 a couple of weeks ago, and it being a couple more weeks until it's on the road.

I have read a lot of the posts on this site, and agree there does seem to be a lot of guff. But as for the tech stuff, I like it. It gives me some ideas of what other people do to their cars, and what might be possible with mine.

As for the debate about the young and the less young. If the kids want to organise night cruises so be it, i wont go. Not my style besides they would probably be embarresed that my car is older than most of them. i am looking forward to meeting some of the members at a nice gentle daytime cruise in the near future. (if i ever get the '84 Z31 on the road)

    cheer cheer

    Graeme:) :) :)
