ok theoretical question , if you had just bought a 91 TT 2+2 J-Spec that was stock as. what would you do to it if you had a 3g budget. preventative maintenance/ mods etc?
fully comp insurance ,rac roadside assistance, 100k full service and tune ,maintenance (oils etc) ,mods come last im afraid guys
100k service, plenum pull/under plenum bypass, change engine/diff/gearbox oil, flush radiator and pressure test cooling system... then mods
as above but give the brake system a good going over as well maybee a series 2 ptu would b good Regards, Trev
and if it was an auto ... a full auto tranny service complete with full flush .. plus a large external tranny oil cooler ...
ok so whats involved in a plenum pull ? and does anyone know someone in tassie that would be able/willing to do these things? i dont know much about engines a friend is going to replace some hoses and seals for me pretty soon but other than that i dont know what needs doing to it.
then Id save up another 3K and I'd fit a decent set of rims/tyres, & maybe a body kit to the allready listed 'options' by others
2 massive turbo's running 19 psi and a body kit .. keep the car for 3 weeks then sell it for 15 grand lol.. just make sure u dont give the guy ur real name who u sell it to .. or u might be in shit int he next few days / weeks /months if ur lucky
no idea about who would be able to do the work for you in tassie but you would be able to save alot from labour if you done most yourself. check out the tech section there are some quality techs on how to do a plenum pull, wateer bypass etc...just do exactly what the tech article tells you to step by step take your time and you will have no problems, and if you do just post up and im sure we would be able to help you..... 1. i honestly would remove the engine 2. full 100k service, plenum pull, water bypass, change fuel hoses, vacuum hoses, injector connectors, coil pack connectors, change spark plugs etc...this is also a good time to clean the engine a lil and get the plenum powder coated to make it look nice...($~1,000) 3. remove injectors and get them bench flowed and tested.($~200) 4. match port the heads to the lowerr plenum then to upper plenum, if you dont want to dig that far down then do the lower plenum to upper plenum, although just doing that wont have no significant results but its good to have it done... 5. get radiator rodded, tested and cleaned etc...($~150) 6. if you clean up the engine and powder coat plenum etc get some nice hardpipes to go with the look. you can get some good cheap ones from ebay for like $150... 7. radiator air guide ($~100) 8. if you have a auto trans get a shift kit/valve body and external cooler...($~600) 9. change all oils, engine, trans, etc ($~150) 10. pod ($~100) 11. nice exhaust system ($~1000) 12. mbc set to 12psi (~$40) 2+3+5+7+8+9+10+11 = $~3340.... as i said the more you do yourself the more you could save. this would be a very nice clean maintenanced zed... from then on just save more and start doing what you would like (interior/exterior etc)....
nice list. Though if you're gonna get someone to remove the engine for you add another 1000 bucks or so how's it goin dude haven't spoken to you in a while?
lol i didnt include that in the price because he has the option of taking it out or not. and plus he can remove it himself if he wanted to ....ive never taken out an engine but i know i wouldnt be paying the labour for someone to do it, id do it myself...our tech sections are awsome, and plus if you ever get stuck there'd be someone who would be able to help you...thats whats so good about this forum... im good dude, ye ive decided im not talking to you anymore untill you visit melbourne. haha jokin
Your in Tassie ! Just go and see the Gonz ! + get a FAT-ARSE ! lol and see whatever else Gonzo can come up with for you 3g !
dandenong isn't melbourne! i've visiting a friend near pakenham soon so i should drop by and say hello. i'd like to attempt to take my engine out soon just cos but A i haven't got an engine crane and B i don't have a level piece of concrete to do it on
You bought the car then? So where are the pics? Like others have said spend on maintenance first. Then mods if there's anything left over. Umm, what on earth for? That's a hell of a lot of work for very little reason, unless he needs new turbo's or a rebuild there's no reason to go pulling the engine.
well when i did work on my engine 100k etc etc it took hell of a lot longer than if i had it out of the veh....it doesnt take long to remove the engine. the time spent on taking the engine out would surely cut the time doing the work on the engine in half than if it was in the bay....esp going through that much work....although i went as far as removing the lower plenum to replace the det sensor. it would also allow you to change the hard to get to hoses, power steering hose if gone etc...also patch up or even give a quick sprey to the bay or areas.... as i said that would be me personally...i know if i bought another zed and i wanted to go through that much work i would pull the engine out before i started...(personally)
just me.... but if its stock as AND if its a nice clean example of inside and out (inc engine bay) Id do 100K service (no brainer) and save the rest for if something else goes wrong I would then happily keep it as a nice clean example of a stock Zed Just my pref. While im loving my modded Zed, and love the modding scene.... I would still kill for a good stock example.
100K service and oil servicing etc. Put it on the dyno Do suspension Do brakes Save up for other mods
thanks for all the pointers guys, will post some pics soon. the guy i bought it off said its had a 100k service but i dont know if that was a standard one or one that covered what a zed requires. as i said im getting a few hoses replaced soon so ill try to replace any i can get to at the time and go thru and clean up/replace any electrical connections possible as well. im a bit worried as i get a bit of smoke coming from the exhaust occasionally when i first take it out but only for a litlle while and only when im idling makes a bit of a whining noise at about 4k revs.
