    GUYS, i need help.

my car won't start because i can't turn my key!

    pretty much.
i put my key in the ignition.
and try to turn, but its locked in that position.
i can't move it at all.

and the "push button" (the one that allows you to remove the key) is already pushed in...is that normal?

anyone have any idea what to do?

might call a locksmith or something.
my cars just now sitting in the sun on my front lawn.

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

    Your steering lock is stuck

which prevents you from turning the key.
i'm assuming you can't turn the steering wheel also.
Have you tried wobbling the steering wheel back and forth while trying to jiggle the key into it's on position?

    moves freely.

dont think i even have an automatic steering wheel lock.

i think i might try an auto electrician

I have this problem after I cut myself a key basicly mine only works oneway as in the key has to go in on one side. Are you using a new key ?

Also as posted above jigling it will help, I have found that works with all locks aslo maybe it might help if you put some graphite in your ignition barrel.

its the same key ive been using ever since.

but ill give it a go.

will also try to jiggle it abit.

    ALSO;

    just realised,
the key is already in START?

    so now im thinking.
last night when i came home, i must have ripped the key out and pushed the 'push' button at the same time too strong??

    argh.
    lock smith or auto elec?

    any ideas?

The key barrel has two electric locks

One is controlled by the Auto shift lever position switch the other I can`t remember as it was so long ago, remove the cover. the switch at the top of the lock red & Black wires are from the lever lock Cut the red one and the lock may work if not it is one of the other wire pairs greenpair or red pair.

Make sure you're in Park. And try having your foot on the brake, though not sure if that's related.

    Car is in park
    foot is on brake
and jiggle the key back and foward .. it should come out .. or mabi get a stronger person to do it ... ?

and also jiggle the steering wheel .

i remember on my old pintara one key was worn down so much that you could take it out while the car was running. And now it is the only key that will open the boot :p

how worn out is your key? I'm sure all it needs is a wiggle and a jiggle. From time to time i cannot turn my key to start without a fair bit of stuffing around. Probably a bad cut

    its the sun/heat

my car also does this. you can slide the key in, but cant turn the barrel. im pretty sure that its the heat expanding the metal in the barrel preventing it from being able to turn. the only way i can turn it on when its hot is by kind of pushing up and to the right at the same time as turning, hard to explain.
