Since i purchased my car, it has never had the electronic memory for the stereo etc. Ie. cd player loses ALL power when car turned off. It's really starting to bug me and i was wondering if anyone could point me to a possible cause (asides from 'a loose wire', maybe something more specific).
    thanks in advance

There should be a wire at the back of the head unit that needs to be connected to a constant 12v supply ie straight from battery, all head units have it i think so there should be one of these wires there already somewhere (it was probably just overlooked and not connected during the installation of the new headunit)... ? or have you already checked this?

the wire from the head unit is usually yellow i think and has a small inline fuse connected to it... (if this is connected the fuse may be blown) atleast it has been this way in my experience

Sounds like its not wired up properly

Your head unit is powered by 2 wires, one red and one yellow. Red is for constant power, so the head unit can save your settings etc.
The yellow one is accessorys so the head unit will turn on when your car does.

Have a look and see how your is hooked up, red should be wired to constant 12v wire. Yellow should be wired up to accessorys wire, so it only gets power when your cars turned on, such as the yellow wire on your ignition.
    Hope that helps

yeah i hooked them both up right. The old head unit never had memory either so that's why i'm thinking some wires somewhere else. I'll check fuses and stuff tomorrow though and have a bit of a snoop around

still can't find anything. Forgot to mention the standard clock doesn't keep memory either so that's why i figured it wasn't a problem with the stereo wiring.

    any suggestions????
