    quite a bit of damage

dont claim it through insurance unless you want the car written off is my sugestion, doesnt take much to write of a z31 these days and sounds like at leat 2-3 k worth of damage:(

If that's all it is then you're very lucky, being a unibody chassis car rear 1/4 panel damage is almost always certain death.

However is your car a Series II? Good luck finding those bits if so, you're going to need it!

Well, it's the uncles fault so you'd claim through his insurance and fro what Chili was saying, his company can't write off the car, they have to pay to fix it.

Yeah, its a series 2. Sorry for no pics, no cam lol.

Yeah, very depressing. I rang around a few wreckers and no1 has a z31 hatch. Unless i wanted to buy the whole thing

This may be an excuse to whip out the pen, sign a loan, and get me a z32 :p

I don't call myself Newbie Z31 for nothing 300zxt. You need to give me a break man. I never stated that I'm a Z expert or mechanical genius.

Well the point is, if you're having troubles with the Z31 being simpler then you'll have 10x as many troubles with the Z32 being a "newbie" and all because it is more complicated. But the fact is any engine that's been neglected will have issues, new or old.

I can get you a hatch, but shipping is going to be a killer. I have a parts car down in Tassie at my parents place, if you get desperate let me know. TNT might ship it for $100 or so. I dont have the tail lights though, but I do have a rear bumper although it's an S1 bumper which is slightly different but it will fit.

Well, thanks zxt. I'll get back to you if i need it.

I realise the complications with a more "modern" engine i.e. the vg30det/t, i think ive just got it stuck in my mind that they're better coz they're newer...even tho they can be 18yrs old now :p

As I said, technically it is "better" as it's the evolution of the SOHC. There would be something wrong with Nissan if it wasn't better, companies dont tend to go backwards.

    Dude, Was your car insured?

If so, you should get a few quotes to repair the damage your uncle did. Your insurance company will declare it an economic write off (which means it can be repaired and driven on the road again) if the cost to repair more than 80% of the total insured, and pay you out for the car.

If you want to keep the car, they will take out the salvage value (which cant be too much for a Z31 these days) from the cash you get back. Then you get to keep the car and the cash, and fix it yourself, or sell off the wreck.

It will be easy to get the repair cost up, just tell the smash repairers to get quotes for new parts from a Nissan dealer. Most parts including panels should still be available ex Japan or the USA. Shipping will add to the cost or the repairs.

If you don't have insurance, get some quotes and go to his insurance company and try and get the cash out of them.

If neither of you had insurance, basically your screwed, unless your uncle is generous with his money.

I almost did this with one of my cars. Insured cost was $6000, repair cost was $5000. Basically very minor front end damage, but new headlights, bumpers and bonnets, and chassis alignment checks all adds up. I was going to take the cash, minus the salvage cost and fix the car myself, but couldn't be bothered as I needed the car fixed ASAP and back on the road for work. The smash repairers reduced the quote so it wasn't a write off, but it ended up costing what they originally quoted anyway.

Aussie government paid for the car repairs. Stupid Navy dude in a navy car ran a red light and sideswiped the front of my car and the car next to me.
