Started with fan belt noise then big end bearing replacement -- and now machanic says needs to replace the engine.. asking $5000 to fix. I am screwed big time. I can't afford that much. I am off the road now untill i get this fixed.

    Don't know what to do!!

Now second hand engine cost aroune $3k and fitting $2k I think.

Can anyone in WA give me a hand well not just hand as i know nothing about the engine tech:bash:

mine is TT, 89, Auto, 4 seater, V330GTT i think
Is it possible to just fix the big end bearing/ stun bearing???
any help would be much appreciated

    thanks in advance

first up the motor is a vg30dett,not what you wrote...lol

and yes,it is possible to just replace the bearings but its still a huge job, would still be in the 1000's to do that.....
my suggestion is go and get a 2nd opinion, probly tom a perth z performance is your best bet....:D
hope it all goes well rove......

    the figures sound about right

Most mechanics here are around $1500 R&R engine but then again, a really good engine is around $3500, not $3k so I guess either way, its about right.

Interesting to knlow how and fan belt noise can somehow turn into an engine replacement??

well i though its a fan belt noise but then the noise keep getting louder and louder and finally making knocking noise. I am having hard time believing myself that i need to replace the engine just because of a noise when everything else is ok. :bash:

your not replacing the engine because of a noise mate. you have rod knock and your bearings are gone. have u checked your oil recently. your not boosting 19psi or something are you?

just wondering what the time frame was . How long from a squeal noise to a knocking noise ? days or weeks or months ?

well that what my machnic said and Mine is stock TT and i drive very carefully 19psi?? i don't think my car does that much??? how to check i am not very technical on Z. I don;t have any gauges or gadgets to check that power etc..

oil level was always good as i was keep topping it up every now and then because of my minor oil leak.

my machanic said its big end bearing naking noise. so need to fix that and best option is to replace the engine.. Am i being ripped off??:(

The noise has turned urgly into 2-4 weeks mate:bash:

Has Tom looked at it? Have a chat with him, if its going to cost a fortune to get it fixed you might as well look at a long block exchange. He'll sort you out :)

Well the engine is gone, 2 double check, when its makin the noice put your hand on the engine and u will feel it knocking if thats the go, u only have a couple of options. Save for new donk, or re-build yours....

    BUT...............

If your like me "quite unlucky" u will pick a 2nd hand engine and a couple of months and she'll be knocking 2.
So thats why i completely built a engine.
Or rebuild yours, then u will no that the bearings are true and strong !
Not some tired old donk some1 has punished and ready for sims...

buy a half cut transplant engine yourself. thats a 3k fix

well as AutechHR31GTS-X pointed out the if i go for a second hand engine which only comes with three months warranty.. what if that get screwed too,,, i know i have to be very unlucky for that but still.

so i am wondering what are the things i should be looking for while replacing with a half cut???? I mean while i engine is out might as well fix some things

    like engine leak??
