im looking at some hks 2530's at the moment. one of them looks like it will need a new core. anyone know what kind of cost i am looking at ?
I don't think you can get 2530 cartridges.... there was some debate on tt net a while back and I think the general opinion was that HKS didn't carry them as spares.
why not ring up garrett and find out how much it will cost? http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/distributor_locator/australian_distributors.html there you go link to all the distributor locations all over australia... Garrett make the cores for the HKS turbos...
not worth the risk simmo if ones already dead, the other probly isnt far behind so you could well end up rebuilding both, try finding a living pair!!!!
The 2530s are only available through HKS and garrett is not allowed to sell any of the parts to rebuild them. You're much better off getting GT2560 or GT2860 turbos imho.
didnt peter (wyyked) rebuild his stockies with gt2530 cores? perhaps send a pm his way.. he may be able to point you in the right direction, cant say im too sure though.. memories a bit foggie..
Interesting comment, Pat - the RZ2 rebuild was done (about 2004) before I took ownership, but GCG used 2530 bb cores when rebuilding the turbos in this car.
Garrett pn: 446179-66 and reuse the 2530's compressor wheel rumours are, the official chra pn for the 2530's is 446179-(00)21 (although unconfirmed) the 446179-66 chra works for sure..from personal experience. Although you will need an undamaged compressor wheel from the 2530. -Eric
Whatever they put in there, I can almost guaruntee you it wasn't HKS parts. There are a gazillion people selling "2530" turbos that are extremely similar spec wheels and in some cases similar AR housings but they are are not quite the same and I'd be a bit dubious about cobbling together a turbo from bits unless you know what you are doing. Ultimately the one thing that is very hard to get is the compressor wheel. I've heard of people using 2860 CHRAs and bolting the compressor wheel on with the .64 A/R garrett exducer.
